    Bulged barrel 22lr

Brought a model 2 brno with a little bulge in the barrel off @tetawa
With the intention of turning it into a shorty if it didn’t shoot aswell as it could
tetawa Said it shot well but if im honest i was a little sceptical
I put a little 4x32 trashco on it which was the only scope i had
And this morning took it to the farm to run it through it’s paces
And at 50 meters it done this with cci standard
10 shots ignore the other 2 they were from zeroing
    Attachment 86339

How worng could i be just goes to show a bulge dosen’T always spell the end
Cheers tetawa very very happy mate

All good, but if it had shot poorly I would have told you. Have found that bulges in the last 50 mm usually turn the grouping to crap, hope you get plenty of enjoyment from it.

Yeah it will get plenty of use and will probably make my model 1 redundant unfortunately
It’s definitely had a trigger mod in the past that’s no factory trigger stunning trigger

Yeah I know you would have said if it shot crap mate most guys on here are pretty honest which is cool
But i was thinking it may shoot excellent at 25m but if that barrel bulge made the bullet slightly un stable it may open up at 50+M
    Cheers

An older relative of mine years ago commented on bulges in the barrels on 22's.
Seemed in those days (probably just before/after ww2 at a guess) a lot were done shooting fish for the table, the bulge occurring right on the mark where the barrel came out of the water.
He then proceeded to tell me that the best way was to submerge the whole gun underwater hand and all before you pulled the trigger.
I have a bit of mythbuster in me but never been game to try it.

It’s true what happens as the bullet picks up speed and if the end is under water it slows very quickly and the pressure builds causing a bulge but if the whole barrel is underwater the bullet come pick up speed and you don’t get a bulge check this video out shows this without the guy even realising he shows it

Yeah sounds like a bulge from putting the barrel under water at a certain depth, I had a mate that did it with the same result, however his never shot great after that. He was shooting eel's in a creek.
Great to hear one forum member being straight up and honest with another member.

Like you mentioned, unless the bulge is in the last few inches, it usually doesn't have too much of an effect on accuracy. I've had a couple of Pistol caliber lever action rifles with bulged barrels due to squib loads. They have all shot extremely well, and the defect was only noticed when running a cleaning brush up the barrel... I preferred to think of it as an expansion chamber!
One gunsmith I know uses a modified tube cutter ( minus the cutting blade off course) to ever so carefully reform the barrel back to round.
