changing rifes to display rifles only

im looking after two rifles for a mate ,303 and a double hammer side by side .his fathers FAL expired and he was going to hand them in but my mate found out they were his grandfathers and the 303 is possibly his service rifle , he has no FAL but would like to keep them and has no interest in ever firing them . does anyone know how to go about making these unusable display rifles ?

There isn't any legal definition of a deactivated firearm in NZ. If the rifle is a good condition unsporterised example it would be a pity to wreck it.

If it's unsportered don't fuck it. Send it to me and I'll send back a dunger No.1 which he can do what he wants with.

Dunno if this would satisfy them or not but could you remove the firing pin and hold it in your safe?
Its basicly a bit of pipe and kindling then and can be restored useable if need be.

No that won't cover it, it would still be defined as a firearm under the Arms Act. I'm no expert but I'd fill the chamber with weld and weld the bolt in place or something similar, something that couldn't be easily repaired.

Trouble is you do what ever , it becomes harmless but could still be pinched and look real in a robbery. Who's gonna look down the barrel of a gun pointed at them and not comply ? Plus the thieves see them through your window and pinch them . No easy remedy really .
I do not think you can display firearms on your wall s unless your house is totally burglar proof . You are asking for problems IMHO
Hide them make them unusable but out of sight .

There is no legal definition of what makes a firearm "deactivated". It's a firearm or it's not but there's no official way of making it not one anymore in the legislation.

Also anyone that commits an armed robbery with a 4ft long SMLE deserves the $37 out of the cash register of their local dairy
