Looking at purchasing a Chronograph in order to input more accurate data into my ballistic program. I mostly shoot factory ammo so my needs are pretty basic. Was thinking the Caldwell ballistic precision or the ProChrono would work for me.
I'm just looking for a bit of feedback on other peoples experience with either of these units or something similar.

I have the pro chrono dlx, does everything I want. It reads differently by maybe 20-50fps on an overcast day to a sunny day, will not read the odd shot if it’s too close or if the bullet is travelling a little high above the chrono
Buy a magneto speed sporter, i had a dlx and it was a total waste of time. Too temperamental

Yep I get what your saying and even with a Chronograph it would be a good idea to validate the data on a target. I do that now but I guess I like to tinker and I would love to know the actual MV of my ammo right at the start. It just seems to me that it gives a more complete understanding of the ballistic performance of the ammo being used.Quote:

I modded mine so I could use it on my .223. Was easy with a multitool and some wire/cut nails. If interested I can post a pic.
Thanks for the feedback guys. It looks like the Magnetospeed gets most of the votes. A member has kindly offered me the use of their Chronograph. So I will give this a shot first and decide from there if its worth owning one of my own.

Yeah maybe I should. However it seems that in the last couple of years it has been easier to source factory ammo vs reloading components. So I have ferreted away a reasonable amount of factory ammo and since my use is mainly hunting I don't tend to go through a lot of rounds. When component get easier to source (YEAH RIGHT).
