So chaps, what are you doing to clean the HMR barrel?
Do you use copper remover, with a jag? Or some other method?
I have a 17 cal rod, jag and bronze brush but can't find patches thin enough to go in the barrel. I tried paper type ones but they come off and stick in the barrel.
I've tried using cloth ones but you've gotta cut em pretty small......

I found the smallest square ones then cut them down till they fit, tedious would be a plesent term to use.
Get a Boresnake, they make them in .17 and it works fine for me.
Otis cleaning gear, small patches are perfect for it.
When I stock up I buy from Otis direct and youshop it over.

I got me one of those all calibre kits they sell and just took out a few things and topped it up with oil and patches
FYI these are pull through cables, means you don't have rods to luge around and they are very sturdy
I use bronze brush and jag with patches, I use copper remover as well, the small patches at H&F are marked .17 and work ok. I don't clean every time, still maintains accuracy, Happy advised to remove the suppressor be fore storing due to condensation so I do it!
Soak both ends of a Johnson's cotton ear bud in boretec copper cutter and pull it through the bore with heavy fishing nylon, repeat 20 mins apart until no more blue colour-copper is observed.Quote:

Are hmr in need if more cleaning than other calibers? I haven't cleaned mine yet and is still cutting satan birds in half at a 100

I only just brought an HMR two weeks ago and got round to firing it in the weekend. Couple of guys hinted that they are a mongrel to clean.
I just used a one piece rod, bush and copper remover , dry patch's then a lightly oiled patch, no problem at all, same as any other rifle to clean.
Cotton bud cut in half on the end of a cleaning rod works a lot better than the tiny patches

They are dirty little buggers for sure, get a fair amount of copper out of mine
I clean mine when it starts to Miss stuff. Have finger size gongs at 50 and 100 off my deck. If You miss them it's time for a dung out.
Wet pull through with copper solvent. Soak 1/2 hour then same again till no more blue stuff.
Probably every 200 rounds but it is stainless and I reckon blued needs more often. Last year mine saw 20 something boxes of ammo thru it
It's worn out a few suppressors so far but still accurate enough .
Kero and a pull thru. 2X yearly Autosol spring clean.
