Have a look at my post on page 1 it tells you how, if you cant get a lead slug the right size freebore measurement may do the trick as its easier to do with a lever action. It will tell you how badly worn the throat is.

Give it the hell scrub with a bronze bore brush and some sweets
Then after that clean all sweets out i use meths
Sweets will eat barrels so make sure you get it out

Then if it’s still bad plug one end of the barrel and fill the barrel with hopies no 9
And leave it for a few days
Then another hell scrubbing before wiping out

That should get it as clean as it’s gonna get

You are wasting time and effort trying to polish a turd, rebarrel it as others suggested.

Yes that’s an option however I reckon if you gave it a good scurb then sluged it to determine proper bore size
It may not be.308 any more then if it needed a larger bullet like .310 or something it may just shoot ok
Us black powder shooters are always trying to get old Worn barrels shooting as we are into old guns but more often than not the barrels are Poked

At the end of the day for what it is a30-30 its a short range bush gun and it doesn’t need to shoot bung holes just get it shooting as good as you can and as long as you can keep it under 4inchs or so at 100 just use the fucker
