    Cost of barrel re-profile

Has anyone had a CM barrel re-profiled lately? Id love to know roughly how much it would cost.

    Thanks

What length, and from what profile down to what profile ?
At a machining rate of $80 and hour, and by the time we have gone down to the right dimensions with out inducing stress in the barrel and spent the time to remove all marks and come to a nice finish , we have never been able to charge less than $200 and sometimes up to $400.
There might be some old one man shop out there that could do it cheaper.
True flite from time to time might be able to reprofile someone else barrel but you will have to ask them if they still provide the service and at what cost.
And a lot of factory profiled barrels out there, when set up between Centers on the lathe can have a wobble , from a little bit to sometime a lot, and are not even worth touching.

Couldn't you just use a flat file and make it a octagan barrel?
Could even get fancy and spiral it.

Well at the end of the day its the pile of swarf on the floor that counts, how you get there is another thing. Thanks @Friwi for your most useful reply!

Friwi is about right, I normally quote $280 to $400 depending on the complexity and time needed spend on the machines.

But in saying that, I've charged as little a $80 (light skim).

Take into consideration, the same machine used to profile the barrel will be used to chamber the next barrel, so I'll be spending up to an hour to get everything dailed in perfectly once the profiling jobs done. You're paying for that hour too.

To be honist, its one of the most horrible jobs for me as a gunsmith, but for some reason I'm really good at it.

It pays to know the value of your friends I find . . . . Free is nice but never ask for what you can't afford or wouldn't pay for!

Yeah and I thought my octagon idea was a winner too.
If he wanted to change the twist he could run the gas along it a few times then put a spanner on each end and put as much or as little twist as he wants.
It appears he doesn't appreciate our skills.

Oh I think he appreciates your skills
He's just pissed off he didn't think of the change twist barrel concept himself

You need to patent that one @7mmwsm
