I have the approved import permit.
How do I get it custom cleared? Any advice appreciated

Customs agent
Customs agent is the easy way. You need to contact them and supply the info they need. Then pay their fees which will include Customs charges.
You can also arrange it yourself. If you don't already hold a Customs Client Code you can apply to obtain one and Customs will clear on your behalf as effectively you are your own broker. That way you pay Customs charges but nothing to a Customs Agent. Then when you go to collect Air New Zealand also has a fee payable.
I never import firearms but I have imported a few machineries from around the globe
Customs can randomly appoint a broker or customs agent for you if you ask for it when they call you,
or you could use your own broker or google one.
Customs will send you a letter with a case number
and your agent or broker will need that case number and they will handle it for you
From memory, my broker fee was $500+gst each time.

Try Anglo Pacific or Gateway cargo. Both are Chch and handle customs clearance everyday. We use Gateway for anything via NZ Cargo at my work but Anglo are excellent as well.Quote:

I have recently imported rifles more than NZD $1000.00 in value. Using my Customs Client Code I cleared through Customs myself, paying gst plus their charges / fees. I still think using a Customs agent is easier but some costs can be saved by doing it yourself. If you don't havs much spare time the Customs agent is a good option.Quote:
