CZ527 Problems

Today I missed a deer that I should’ve got. So I checked gun and it wouldn’t group. Noticed barrel and action where loose. I then decided it would be a good time to remove stock and clean the 18 years of crap out as stock had never been off. On reassembly I had to do the action screws/bolts up very tight to get action and barrel to stop moving. Then the magazine wouldn’t go in or come out freely. If I back the screws of a bit the magazine goes in and out freely but action and barrel is to loose in stock. Any advice on the best gunsmith in the Waikato to sort this out for me? Think it’s beyond my skill level.

When reassembling, the magazine well needs to line up perfectly to click into the bottom of the action. Which is a bit fiddly with the spring for the mag catch applying pressure to one side of it. Look/feel inside the top of the action to see if they're mated up properly. If there is a gap and/or lip then it's not seated correctly and that will be creating an extra bit of space which would stop you from being able to sandwich the stock properly.

Also explains why you can't get the mag in and out.

You assemble them with the mag half or more in, helps the little latch stay in place

You are correct I didn’t have it lined up perfectly and there was tiny gap and a lip. Managed to get it seated correctly with a bit of sideways pressure and it is all working perfectly. Thanks heaps for the advice. Happy as to have my favourite rifle operational again.

Thank you for the offer but I all sorted now. I didn’t have it quite assembled correctly. Ps u guys put a suppressor on my other 223 couple months ago goes great thank you.

Years back I bought a CZ 527 in .17 Hornet HB, that was loose in the action, from new, got it deeply discounted for $750,
I had troubles with mag and/or looseness until, I took out a bit of wood and bedded it, shots lights out now,
Have had a few apart, (owned 5 different Cals), .17 hornet x2,.221 fireball, .204, .223 and 6.5 grendel.

Ive been dealing with some teething issues with mine for years. To the point I've never taken it bush. However, I've solved the feed issues, I think.

I've also found the bolt handle catches on the action, its slight but annoying. I figure I just need to wear it in, so i plan on cycling the action a few hundred times. Does that sound about right?

From what i understand, these rifles are potentially near perfection. They just had some broad quality control issues.

FWIW when they first came out, 5-6 years ago, I bought a new Ruger American Ranch II in 5.56 (223). I'd read up on the agricultural bolt and action machining with sharp edges etc and the fix. Sure enough when I unpacked it the bolt tended to bind and stop halfway on a attempted fast close. Then I sliced my thumb on a sharp edge on the internal bolt running surface when I removed it. Drive my better half crazy that night sitting in the lounge while she was watching the box, bolt slathered thinly in Flitz Paste, in-out, in-out repetitively for most of a couple of hours. Also lightly stoned a couple of sharp edges I could reach with a thin fine ceramic sharpening rod from my Lansky. That bolt/action is now one of the slickest I own. Kind of like a 303B battle rifle. Enough looseness in the bolt/action to operate with sand/dust or mud in it withiut jamming. And its an accurate little beastie too.

It's not cheap but a little goes a long way. There are also other options I'm sure

Will that wear both surfaces down? I think where the bolt handle is contacting is okay. Its just the metal on the action i want to reduce.

Yes but polishes rather than removes material..of course it must but minute amounts. More like lapping.

I just used my diamond hone to take the bur off. Huge improvement.
