You have good taste sir. An Oberndorf Mauser "original sporting rifle" in 6.5x47, kurz action. Manufactured 1923, I got it in a completely stuffed state and no bolt . Rebuilt by Dave Ward. 3.1 Kgs.

Do you find the mauser action too noisy? I have a cz527 and I wonder if the action is too loud for bush hunting.

cant get head around HOW it would be too noisy unless you hunt with no round in chamber........
most folks will either have safety on or have bolt with round on extractor and not shut completely....

Yeah, that makes more sense. Cycling a round in my 527 will scare anything away.

My 308 has a standard action and can be done slowly and very quietly.

.....Respectfully suggest that you shouldn't have a round in the chamber until you are ready to shoot.

so I can agree with that.........Im ready to shoot from the time I reach my hunting grounds and are in animal prone areas. my rifle is ALWAYS treated as loaded.....

this highlights difference between an open country hunter and someone who spends a lot of time in thick bush.... open country have time to take pack off, load up etc..in thick bush Im trying to be quiet, keep dog quiet,ID animal, close bolt/cock hammer and fire BEFORE the usually alert animal departs.... I would guess thats usually under 5 seconds from first glimpse of animal.....
two of my hunting rifles dont have a magazine at all.....far too slow to carry them without a round chambered LOL.

yes I have always been a bush hunter and hunt with a round in the chamber- before I go hunting after cleaning bolt or a new rifle or having trigger done I always check check the trigger let off - no round in bump bump on butt - thump the butt check check yes safe - but I have used half cock for years and likely wont change

@Micky Duck you, or some other old school hunter, should teach these boys how to hunt safely on half cocked, so they don't go off half locked!

    I wouldn't say so, no.

It's more clunky. But run it fast and it's still very slick. I'd say the sound of the round popping up out of the mag on a Tikka/Howa/whatever is probably a bit louder if you go slow.
