CAPS LOCK was on.....work pc
Years of 25-06 abuse has left him deaf
Tikka Hunter 25-06 still wish I hadnt sold it. The calibre used as standard by the UK Forestry Commission Rangers, on Reds, Fallow, Roe, Sika etc, so must be good for something
25-06 no good for fallow or reds that's simply crazy talk lol the calibre was pretty much made for those 2 medium size thin skinned game , look at ballistics chart & tell me how you cant get a 117 or 120 gn pill out to 400 for an effective kill Tahr are thicker skinned but not bullet proof !!
You are just a retarded wee lemon lacking in comprehension skills.
Not once did I claim 2506 was/is the best cartridge for Tahr. I did however point out that I have used it forever, and other cartridges for valid comparison.
It is, however, one of my favorite cartridges. I've shot lots of Fallow with a .243, you want to complain about that choice? Well it will really rip your nighty to learn it is common here to use .223 on Fallow, goats and big reds.
You are right however, about one thing: I have "fuck all idea" about what you have shot, possibly because it is "fuck all"!!!!
Two years on this thread that I am sure was started as a piss take has resulted in handbags at 20yards :D
FUCK OFF @Gibo! MY 25-06 SHOOTS GREAT, BLOODY QUIET TOO!!!
I miss this thing, 150LRAB @2850 put the hurt on near and far, 20" barrel made it nice and easy to point and carry, was my main rifle for quite a while and It never failed me and nothing walked away from it. I have a "blank canvas" one sitting here I will do the same with one day.

I bet old mate back in the day didn't see all this trouble when he picked up his .257 neck die in one hand and some 270 brass in the other...
@Simmo you should know better than to argue with 25-06 owners. Owning such a calibre shows they aren't capable of reason or logic :P
25-06? Surely y'all are getting it confused with the 30-06. There's no such thing as a 25-06.
Stop being silly. My 243 has been used to nail a young hunters first tahr with a pretty mild load. There is no way a heavier pill, with more speed, more energy, shooting tiny groups like your 25-06, like a laser, could possibly do it. You fellas that have been shooting/hunting way longer than I have really have no idea. :wtfsmilie:
I've got a 25-06 and a 6.5x55.
The 25 is very flat shooting and pushes a 100gr bullet out at 3,300+ fps and knocks over medium size deer (fallow) with ease at 300m and I shoot a fair few at that distance+. However, the lighter bullets are affected to an extent by wind.
The 6.5x55 is slower but is a very effective calibre and you can get a far greater range of bullets for the 6.5 which gives you far more flexability (100gr - 160gr). The recoil is very mild even without a moderator and it has far less 'bark' that the 06 or the 270.
I'd thoroughly recomend either calibre over a 270 and ammunition for both was easily available last time I was in NZ, but I would recomend you stick a mod on the end!
I have gone from a .243 to a .270 a few years ago because I'm shooter further and need a bit more punch. I don't like the recoil though and wish there was a flat shooting gun a little lighter than .270
For someone starting out shooting reds under 300m I would point them to a 708, Id have one if the bullets stayed afloat a little longer.
I use a 243 and a swede without suppressor and find the 270 with suppressor on a complete pussy to shoot by contrast. I use 130gr interlocks or 130gr berger classic hunters for a flash load..same poi.
I can't believe that this thread has run 7-8 pages, I have both, isnt a pinch of coon shit, between them,
?
same .. the .270 just ticks more boxes all around. including you can find ammo almost anywhere in a pinch. and its ballistics are close to 7mmRm, .. and whats this mention of recoil? I've never felt much of that from it but it does have a grey stone suppressor :)
