    Disguising a safe, any ideas?

Anyone got some good ideas on disguising a safe? I'm about to start building our house so it's the perfect time to make something.

I was thinking a decoy safe would be good, just with a JW15 in it without bolt and have my good safe hidden. I'd be devestated if my guns got stolen regardless of them being insured. Concealment and misdirection are probably just as good as safe structure, can't take them if they don't find them.

PM any ideas or pictures if you don't want them publicly posted.

The best I've seen (and I've seen thousands) is a bookcase about 1.5 metres high that swung open (operated by a secret switch) to reveal a small space where the metal gun cabinet was securely fasted to the wall studs and the floor.

I like the old concealed under the stairs with a blank door trick. Have the door from floor to ceiling and disguise the opening amongst vertical panelling. No handle obviously. Make door plenty big enough so that you can open the safe door easily.

False wall on the side of the wardrobe.
Maybe you need to go on some of the drug and gang raids to see how they hide them

Or build a bookshelf frame that wraps around the safe but can still open up like above.

Or if the safe is in a separate room, make the entry door to that room more fortified and more securely locked. So it's not a typical house internal door. In the old house I used to keep the A cat one in a cupboard that used to hold the water cylinder, then eventually moved everything into the man cave with a secure door and frame.

Personally I wouldn't worry about a dummy safe with an old rifle in it.

im about to undertake the same exercise and ive come up with the following -a concealed swing out ful llength pitcure of her indoors 100%starkers -a 130 Dbsiren-3x CO2 fire extinguishers 1x headheight 2x groin level.if that dont fuck a slimy arsewipe space invader up then nought will ,or theyre 100%certifiable in which case torment will involve a single room with me serving tucker minus false teeth and dribbling from both sides of me mouth!

Just google Disguised gunsafes. then images. where I got the idea for making my safe look like a gas tank converted to a fireplace in the garage. I also have my old gunsafe still in the bedroom in plain site with a old 303 that has a slightly bent barrel. Firearms officer got shown both.

When we build our next house in a few years its going to be fortified Rammed earth and an entire room will get fortified into a walkin gunroom, steel rods embedded in all the walls.Always wanted one.

I'm a fan of subterfuge. I like the idea of a decoy safe, particularly one that is able to attract any would-be criminal's attention so that they focus their time and attention on it, hopefully making a big racket in the process.

As for disguising the main safe - there are plenty of ideas on the internet on how to do it. I'm pretty sure that you can think like a criminal and come up with something imaginative for your own requirements (e.g. strictly disguise or disguise and ease of accessibility etc).

Nah I have to agree with the decoy safe. If you get burgled and your place is like mine, the burglar is going to find reloading gear, brass for Africa, hiking boots, frozen unlabeled meat in the freezer, etc etc all sorts of shit pointing to there being firearms in the house. If you don't give them something to find, they will look until they find what you don't want them to find!

I always thought the best place for a concealed entrance to a safe would be in the downstairs/spare loo. It's a room many houses have, easy for a burglar to glance into, see that it's empty, and immediately write off and keep going somewhere else (and unless they are absolutely clamping off a gigantic turd, unlikely to spend any time in there..) instead of investigating further. We got burgled years ago and they even had a nosey in the bloody washing machine! Those types of loo tend to be crammed into wherever they will fit within the space of the house, like at the bottom of stairs, kinks in the corridor, that kind of thing. These would also be the best place to confuse a burglar re the void that's missing, if you know what I mean.

The other idea to think on is when people think safe, tall and skinny. Rip the insides out of a couch and bolt safe to floor and wall on its side then cover with couch cushions. Would love a hidden room / safe but don't have the room to really do it well
