Do Brownells still ship AR-15 parts under $100? Any issues this end?

Hi all,

Few years back I use to buy a few small AR-15 parts from Brownells and as long as they were under USD$100 total there were no issues with them shipping them to NZ without an export permit and I had no issues with customs here, no import permit was required. Is this still the case?

I recall seeing a bit of drama posted on facebook by NZAR15 several months ago about NZ Police denying all import permits for AR15 stuff because it could potentially be used on an E-Cat or some shit. Was that ever resolved? I'd assume if they're stopping import permits for anything AR related then likely customs would seize anything sent from Brownells?

Issues at this end if you are in trade, ie run a business selling guns or parts. Police are refusing import permits for dealers on the bullsh*t basis of saying all ARs and parts by type are MSSAs.

All the parts I've brought in recently I've just applied to import as MSSA parts to avoid any run around.

All Ar15 & Ak parts now require an import permit, even if they are for an A cat rifle.

Brownells will still ship to NZ if the parts amount to US$100 max.
But as said above, NZ police policey now wants import permits for all AR & AK parts regardless of A or E...

22 CFR § 123.17 - Exports of firearms, ammunition, and personal protective gear.
(a) Port Directors of U.S. Customs and Border Protection shall permit the export without a license of:
(1) Parts and components for USML Category I(a) firearms, except barrels, cylinders, receivers (frames), or complete breech mechanisms, when the total value does not exceed $100 wholesale in any transaction...

It is rising to $500, it was supposed to be early this year but given the US Govt shut down I would imagine it won't be till the end of the year.

Yeah pretty much. AR-15's are going to actually end up cheaper to build than ever once the ITAR rises.

Not necessarily - barrels, uppers, lowers still require export permit.
