DPT Suppressor - 7mm08
Hey Guys
So I have bought a Ruger Americal 7mm08 and plan to get it threaded and a suppressor added. Some of the forum threads seem to suggest that the DPT is a good option, so will get that fitted. It extends 95mm beyond the end of the muzzle. So my question is this, shall I cut the barrell down or am I better to leave it?

What's the barrel length now and what do plan to use it for? Target shooting, bush hunting, tops hunting, all of the above?
-
As above will help point you in what we might think is the best direction, I personally try and keep barrels to 20” when suppressing them I just find it abit easier all around
-
Will have the check the barrel length when it arrives later this week. It is my only rifle - so will be used for a bit of everything. In the Hawkes Bay, so will start in the Kaweka - so plenty of bush... Hopefully get up on some tops in Ruahine's too...

18-20”
mines 16 and I love it but it’s on the shorter side for some people

My old 7mm08 was chopped to 18-inchs and suppressed.
Perfect length for bush and open country hunting as well as hitting steel along way out.

I put the DPT magnum on my Standard 20 inch Tikka. Its ok navigating bush if you're holding it in your hand but if it's over you're shoulder, That can get tired quickly as it hangs up on everything.
But thats just me.

I like 16” but think 18” is a better all rounder

Is the magnum also 95mm beyond the barrel?
-
I wouldn’t bother putting a magnum on it

Mk2 DPT with the brake on the end :)

I would just leave it at 20-22". For most 95% of your hunting it will be fine.
For the odd trip in really tight stuff you will be holding it and manovering it around anyway.
Once you have a few years hunting you can make a decision for what suits you, or you may add an extra rifle.
So one Short action or even a lever action short barrel 16-18" for north island hunting out to 250-300 mtr (243-35cal) and something else for tops hunting 284 or 300wm etc
