    DYI Anschutz Magazine

Next weekend I have a match that requires a 10 shot magazine. None to be had for an Annie with the 64 action (a 1416 in my case).

The interweb (particularly Rimfire Central - the go-to place for things 22, and a vast rabbit hole if you need distraction) suggested a Savage one might be adapted.

Heavens be - the LGS had a 10 shot Savage Mk 11 magazine.

After a good bit of scheming and comparison to the OEM 5 shot - About 30 minutes of grinding, filing and careful fitting yeilded a magazine that is fully functional and most importantly, feeds flawlessly for the whole 10 rounds.

I'm not a take photos and this is how you do it sort of person . . . . just be assured it can be done.

Well done, done a bit of that myself, I have a 10 shot & it fits in all the Annie .22s, from Flobert to 54.

So the results - here we have a Savage, a OEM Annie and a Promark (crappy, supposedly for a Winchester - the 69, M52 etc but didn't even fit in the mag well of my M52). They all now fit and feed in my Annie.

The secret to this sort of job is seeing where the cartridge nose will end up as it feeds. If you look at the picture carefully you can see that there are variations in the way the cartridge sits, but each one has the nose at the right height as it travels those first 5 or so vital mm's.

Its tempting to go after the magazine lips but this should be an absolute last resort. Neither of the two donors needed the lips adjusted

So - an update. I used these mags in a competition in the weekend. The Savage based one was pretty good, it had one or two FTF under pressure, its a keeper. The Promark "winchester" one gave me plenty of trouble, funny how something that works ok using it at a bench can "turn on ya when you are trying to do everything quickly . . . it wasn't soldier proof - thats for sure. It can be fixed I think.
