    Exporting Firearm Parts

    Hi guys,

I trying to send the bolt from my Howa1500 to the U.S for some work. NZ Post will obviously have nothing to do with any firearms parts... has anyone had any experience recently with sending stuff overseas and know who will do it? I have the export side of the U.S sorted and a NZ Police import permit (retailer copy) in the packaging for its return.

I am getting the bolt bushed and firing pin turned down, along with the bolt fluted and after contacting almost every gunsmith I could find in NZ that I could find, I can’t find one that I’m satisfied would do a good job for a reasonable price. Most gunsmiths couldn’t do the bolt bushing and either wont do Howa bolt fluting, won’t do it in a style that I’m happy with or charge stupid amounts. This led me to contacting GreTan Rifles for the bolt bushing and then he suggested that he could send it onto Kampfield Customs for fluting afterwards.

I’m not really looking for this thread to become a debate on the merits (or lack of) of fluting or bolt bushing. The way I see it I would rather spend a bit of extra $$$ so that when this build is finished, it’s exactly what I want. So please keep replies to constructive comments on the courier issue or recommendations of other NZ gunsmiths that I could try?

Yeah exporting out of the U.S isn’t an issue as it’s just a bolt and is effectively going to GreTan for repair (so according to them is already exported so doesn’t require a permit, which I’m not entirely convinced by though but as long as it gets back is fine).

My real issue is finding a courier company that will ship it so I can get it out the country.

What type of bushing? I’ve had an epoxy bushed rem 700 and it certainly tightened things up tolerance wise
