Personally, if it was me, which I must remember it isn't, I'd be all over the Grendel. But the point of this rifle is to control pests (rabbits to goats) and take the odd tiddler deer - as @GWH says - the .223 is obviously the right choice.
If flat and fast there's nothing wrong with 55gr Spbt SGK at 3200 odd. My 18" mod 7 223 pushes them at that no problem and crazy accurate

I can almost guarantee that if you put a Vixen .222 in her hands she would be ruined for life and nothing else would do from that point on

Don’t forget that the open sights were a condition , and the Sako’s came with a great factory aperture sight set for 100m & 200m

I used Broncos as an example. Must be one somewhere it seems perfect.

When I really really want something specific, I have an emailing list for nearly every gun store in New Zealand. Send an email out and you will likely find what you are after.

I have not used it in years and it needs updating. @Flyblown do you want this? Also, anyone else want it? I would like to add all the missing gun stores, it is an old list.

Yeah BLR 223 would be my pick however the Henry long ranger has turned up in NZ, Had a fondle of one at Reloaders Supplies. They also come in 223 with open sights.

I was about to ask when the long ranger gets here.

    Browning seem to do one.

Very little about in small calibre with open sights nowadays with good scopes at reasonable prices.
There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!

depends on how outlandish you want to get but you could go Troy Pump $2159 with two 10 round PMags (.300blk or 5.56)

    Alternatively I would be considering a CZ 527 in 7.62x39 or 5.56

Not that easy to load Im picking, and empties will ding the underneath of the scope but the case hardening and woodwork are attractive. What cal is it now.

Update: read the thread and see its a hornet. Fiddly thing to reload that one
