Firearm Dealer to Dealer transfer prices.

So you bought a nice rifle on TradeMe, but there's only one small problem...it's located outside your region.

As we can't get the rifle sent to our address anymore, there are usually two main options: you could go for a long drive/trip to pick it up, or use Dealer to Dealer/Gunshop to Gunshop transfer.
This courier/transfer price seems to average about $60 for the transportation of the rifle from the dealer who sends it to the receiving dealer. At the receiving end, there is usually no fee for the rifle purchaser, so the total paid by you is $60.

However, there is only one firearms dealer in my town (H&F), and they charge $60 for delivery BUT also charge a $30 'pick up fee'. So if I purchase a rifle on TMe I'm up for a $60 fee from the seller's dealer + a $30 pick up from my local H&F....so a total of $90.

I'd be interested to know what others have experienced with dealers/gunshops around the country, and what they are charging?

H&F in Christchurch charge $60 to pack and send. No charge to pick up when sent from another H&F store.

Manawatu Hunting and Fishing has never charged me a pick up fee, but I do support them and the service by buying stuff in there from time to time, so that may be part of it

$60 from local H&F. Shipped to whatever dealer I wanted it sent to (either H&F or any other firearms dealer). Top service.

Because the dealer to dealer system has been working nicely for me I've recently used dealer to dealer for an off license rifle I could have had sent directly.

But $60 to know its going to be sitting safely at Gunworks waiting for me is good peace of mind

You have to consider the $60 in the context of the value of the gun being transported also.
$90 to move a cheap trademe 22 is going to hurt.

$60 ( I've never been charged a pick up fee ) when its valuable and old is great value

Local H&F was $85 interisland to another H&F.

Local independent was $65 within Island and $80 interisland to another independent dealer.

These prices were just for sending (not packaging).

Well so far it looks like H&F stores are charging from $60 to $85 (see above post by NZShoota)... and/or a pickup fee whereas others don't.

I find that this D2D transfer system works quite well, and I don't have any complaints apart from thinking that a 'standard transfer charge' between H&F stores would seem more logical (why the different prices? Are some 'creaming' a bit at both sending and receiving stores?).

If there is only the one shop/dealer in town then the TMe rifle purchaser (unless he goes on that road trip), has to use them (there is no other choice in a monopoly). Call me cynical, but I suspect that some of the dealers/stores that are charging a pick-up fee, feel like they are being used as a 'drop box' for out-of-region firearms that "could/should have been purchased in our store".

What actually stops one from sending by courier?....serious question as I am about to unload several firearms on the market and H&F are an 80 km drive.

I think it's because the courier companies (after the ChCh Mosque shooting) will no longer carry or deliver a firearm to a residential address, only to another firearms dealer (D2D).
I don't think it's actual written law, but was a decision by the courier companies...but I stand to be corrected.

Do couriers have to be licensed to carry firearms in their vehicles?....why I ask is can anyone carry a parcel from one destination to another without the contents being disclosed.

Couriers don't have to have a F/A license to carry a firearm.
If you purchase or sell a F/A and need a courier, a Police Form 43a needs to be done, which discloses the contents.

Does that mean one has to disclose contents to courier?
