Fitting a scope - DIY or better to get someone who knows what they're doing?

Hi all - I've recently purchased a howa 1500 which came with a scope. I've upgraded to a better scope (vortex diamondback) and rings (warne) purchased online. My question is whether I can install this stuff myself or whether I should get someone who knows what they're doing to do it. I've watched a few youtube vids and it seems pretty straightforward (though I don't have a torque screwdriver or the fancy small level). But welcome advice from those with more experience. And if it is best to get someone else to do it, any recommendations for good people in Wellington (ideally not up the Kapiti Coast as most people seem to recommend).

I took my into hunting and fishing and they fitted the scope for free, this was in Palmerston North

Do it yourself it's not hard you don't need any flash gear this way you can set it up for your eye better.
Then bore sight by setting the rifle up on sand bags and remove the bolt look through the barrel onto a target at about 25M and then adjust the scope so cross hairs are bang on.
Remember to move it down wind scope up and turn left makes it go right.
This is only the case when looking through the bore.

If you take it to a shop, whatever, you still need to be there for the fitting as whoever sets it up is highly unlikely to get the eye relief correct for YOU

Do it yourself, valuable thing to learn if you knock it lose. (been there with minimal tools in a hut cursing) Take your time, plenty of videos on you tube. Take pictures if your really worried.

@bmjms, it would help if you say where in the country you are.

Very helpful advice, thanks all. Good points about DIY'ing so you know how to do it yourself at a pinch, and to get the proper eye-relief. I'm in Lower Hutt, Wellington. If there is someone out there who can talk me through it, that would be great. Otherwise I'll watch a few more vids and then have a crack myself. Cheers

It can be a pain setting up a scope but it is much better to do it yourself because it is essential to set it up for your physique and eyes. A Wheeler scope set up kit helps, as does a boresighting device. When you are setting up your own scope you will discover the amount of error that you scope has and where it has it so that you can compensate for the error.

Do it yourself if you think you're capable, I've seen two shops lately who have cocked it up and cost a mate a box of ammo before we discovered it was loose.
