Flir driver software help needed

So I have a flir first mate, it runs on the 4x aa is big and bulky and only use it rarely as have been using a leupold lto. The flir gives a better quality image and better contrast. Had the flir for 2? Years and never bothered to play much with it other than turn it on and use it.

Now trying to get it to talk to the laptop/tablet using the use output and a cable, can't seem to get it to work.... Anyone else tried this? Anyone got ideas on who to ask? Can't even recall who I brought it off (was an online retailer that much I can recall)

Other issue is it EATS aa batteries (like 30mins off 4), going to play with the idea of hard wiring a 6volt battery onto it or working out a voltage adapter to run it off the cigarette plug in the truck, anyone tried this?

@gadgetman or @mudgripz might have some ideas

Sorry for the hijack, but is the Leupold LTO good for spotting rabbits/possums? Cheers.

Out to 30m.... Really want to find a way to mount it on the 22 :thumbsup: find it great for working out where in a tree a possum is that the dogs are insisting is up there

Is amazing for the size and convenience, easy to swap batteries and it gets a decent length off one, really quick start up, nice colour palettes just doesn't have the same distance and image quality as the flir.

If I was getting another I would be coughing up the extra for a Yukon I think but I have what I have and can't justify another....

No experience, but one of these?

Different model, hm324 going by my googling....

Managed to find the right part (hot shoe) that was in my box of electrical bits and pieces, now just need to buy a voltage adapter drop the cigarette plug to 6v as the one I found was 9v and then work out how to turn an rca into something useful.... This is where I will have trouble. Computer /tablet/phone don't want rca inputs have a reversing camera but that then need it's own power supply

Thanks. I don't think 30 metres is quite worth the money these things cost. I am interested in thermal though, it would be so cool to have that advantage instead of playing the guessing game as to where the critters are. Any thoughts on the current entry level Flir, the Scout TK?

I have video of a rabbit at 60m with a TK, was in the open between trees - I'll try to find it, have the same image with a better camera too - was a while ago, don't sell the TK

You would probably need to pick up a USB video capture device. They are horrendously expensive things. Pretty sure I have a couple kicking around somewhere.

what type of battery are you using, we use a lot of the BTS version (bino, its bigger brother) - they last around 4-5 hours off 4 AA 2700 rechargeable NiMH, however if you use the cheaper AA it will only last for a much shorter time

Trouble is I need it sorted this week, might have to go to rangiora and visit jaycar and see what they have... Looking in their catalogue I think they have the bits I need, might need a new screen

Got some around somewhere, not sure if they will still hold charge (been used for 2+yrs) I'm a lazy prick and just been using up my stock of disposables I got when disk Smith closed :thumbsup:

This could be a good power option. Can make up leads with cigarette socket to spade or alligator clips. Gives you options.

Stupid technology.... Brought the right parts and drivers not available :sigh:

A usb socket would probably work for your power supply, regulated 5v. Im not sure what you after for the capture device but ive got one with a micro usb on one end and bnt on the other, used it for my home made NV setup using an android phone for a screen. If you can pick it up its yours chch

Got the power supply issue sorted (haven't confirmed but it all looks good and can always just use my rechargeable aa's

Thermal has an rca output, laptop has USB input need to get the two to talk. Rca output works as it talked to the TV succesfully

Thats what this does, same as what Gadget Man posted except I cut off the RCA and USB and replaced them with a BNT to connect to camera and a micro USB to connect to phone. Its just the plugs that are different to what you have

How did you get the software to work? Laptop finds the device but apparently there are no drivers online available

I never used it on pc but it did come with a cd that got thrown out a long time ago, its probably a matter of finding software online that doesnt look too dodgy

Trouble I have with phone or tablet is finding a way to find the device once it's plugged in

There was an app I used and it pretty much worked straight away, that said my new phone doesnt have usb on the go (OTG) so it wont work at all and it seems pretty hard to find out which devices have OTG

Tried with my tablet, just looked for my phone and can't find the bloody Hong so won't be trying hat tonight

So it turns out the jaycar saleslady sold me completely the wrong thing (after 3 phone calls with them) and even with @gadgetman great advice/help/emails it still won't work,... I owe you a drink / bowl of fries when we finally met up!
