    Flush mag for howa mini

Anyone had any luck cutting down the howa mini magazine to sit flush with the stock?like the idea of one in 7.62x39 but don’t like the sticking out mags. Thanks

The magazine well protudes from the stock anyway. It'll never be satisfactorily flush with the stock. And it's single stack so you'd end up with a 2rd mag.

I made a blind mag stock for a Howa mini. I ended up cutting the mag short and sitting it inside the stock. The pain with this is the much reduced mag capacity, but the biggest one is trying to reload the mag.
You need to push the round about half way into the chamber and then slide it back into the mag. With a scope on there is not much room to do this.
The other problem is there are no feed lips on the action so the feed lips have to be on the magazine box. I tried making a double stack internal mag box but feeding was an issue because the feed ramp is designed for a centre feed, rather than rounds coming in from the side. By altering the sides of the feed ramp it might work.
All up it is a lot of work to do and would probably be easier to buy a Zastava mini.

I've cut two down, if you dock the tail of the follower you'll still get 4 (x39 cases) or 5 (x223 cases) down. It doesn't come flush with the stock as the bottom metal protrudes a little bit but it still carries heaps better, sort of the same as a T3 with the 3 shot mag - and nicer than a 527 with its 3 or 5 shot mag, your hand comes back to the point of balance.

Some magazines will "convert" a double stack to a single for presentation to the bolt for pick-up and chambering, these will top load fine, I have a Savage Stevens 223 with a blind magazine like this. I looked at modifying a Savage Stevens blind mag but it was going to take someone with a lot more skill (and patience) than I.

Not worried about reducing the number of shots as usually only load 3 in the A7 even though it can take more.

Here's a short mag I did on my Howa Mini in 6.5 Grendel. I will try and post a link to a "How To"

No, actually it is pretty simple, it is almost as if Howa planned it to be done. I didn't shorten the top of the bottom plate so mine holds one less than the mag in the "how to". The hardest part is taking a saw to an expensive mag.

Howa does make a 5 shot mag, seen them advertised in nz but that was a couple of years ago, haven't seen seen them again.

I bought a 5 shot one, it turned out to be a ten with a extended leg on the follower so it only held 5 . . . was the same box

I see Reloaders have them. I looked at the pics and couldn't see much difference in size so was hesitant to buy one! Thanks for the confirmation
