There have been some mixed reports on the Forbes. Are they still making them ? You might also want to consider MkV Weatherby Ultralight - a few come up 2nd hand. Bloody good rifles.

Have had both, would go for a kimber any day. Had a few issues with the forbes including terrible wear on the stock. It was still a light accurate rifle but wouldn't have another one.

I have seen that on the stocks. I have played with one and liked it, crazy light.

A mate had a kimber for awhile it was certainly light too light in my opinion
Felt like a toy and yes it was accurate but they are extremely hard to shoot accurately as they are so light it’s hard to hold them still lol

I've got a custom Kimber, .260, 5lbs 2oz, scoped, like carrying it, but its hard to shoot as well, as with a 7lb rifle, Been looking at a Kimber Montana, in .257 Roberts myself,
M70 featherweights, were out three years, ago in .257 Roberts.
tons of lightweight choices about now.

M70 is a very heavy action. You d be better with a lightened tikka or Remington if you are not going the kimber/ Forbes route.

I really like my Forbes 280AI. Nicer stock than model 7s...even prefer over CF 7s. My action is nice but I do like the Kimbers too...although the Forbes is beautifully scaled like no other.

I have seen a few well traveled Forbes that lose the stone coating on the stock. I wonder if a quick spray of cerakote would go a ways to stopping this?
