Yeah exactly - NZ Post have disclaimers on all sorts of crap like cash or cash substitutes, jewelry, collectibles, certain fragiles and even some electronics as I found out. This may even prevent a claim from them from being paid out if they lose or damage the damn thing even though it's under their claim limit for value. They really are not an outfit I like using if I can avoid it that's for sure.

About 40 years ago I had a big shipment of assorted rifle and pistol magazines from Triple K arrive at the Ch-Ch Postal Centre. I was busy but my dad offered to pick them up, so I gave him a signed cheque to cover the sales tax and duty. He presented the notification card and the blank cheque. It was given back to him with the large unopened carton. "No duty on books Sir, have a nice day"!

Does the old "sporting goods" label work? Shooting is a sport. As is game hunting.

So a bit of an update on this situation. The NZ Post international processing has moved to the new Auckland Processing Centre. This is where your gun parts will end up after customs clearance. The site has no access for members of the public, so you can no longer pick up items, or, have someone collect on your behalf.

They will only release your items to a third party courier. This means you will have to book a courier to pick up your package to forward onto you.

I set up an account with a courier company so I can self generate tickers and arrange pick up.

So there it is. Massive fuck around.

    Beat me to it mikee.
I have challenged them on it. I raised a complaint with the ombudsman's office, which led to me getting a phone call from a senior person in NZ post.
I won't go into the full story (it was posted somewhere on this forum in 2019) but the summary is that the international mail centre is going against policy by withholding mail which can be legally shipped within NZ. It's a problem that stems from someone with the Int mail centre and not NZ post.
I went through this process twice over a 12 month period and my parts were eventually delivered.
I will try and find the name and number of the person I dealt with, if they are still responsible for dealing with this.

That's not entirely true, if some low level NZ post employee has told you this. Ref my post above, I fought NZ post, via the ombudsman's office, and phone calls with a senior official in NZ Post.
You need to shake the tree very hard to get anywhere, but it's possible to get the right things to happen.

@-BW- I'd be interested to know the process. This situation is ridiculous. It's almost like they've implemented a soft ban on private imports

I’ve still got a packet of 243 projectiles sitting in Auckland that they want send , had offers to collect by good bugger members but I don’t think it’s worth driving all over Auckland to get, where’s common sense gone

Gone out the door through hiring practices that don't reward sensible thinking... I guess it's the difference between a 'customer focused/customer first' attitude and the desire to try to send signals and reshape society in ways that aren't supported in legislation.

At the end of the day, if NZ Post continues down this pathway they won't be shipping anything as nothing will fit with their woke BS ideals.

And again I say they wonder why people have stopped using them.
Once you get pissed off with them you try your best to not use them in the future

Not sure if it has already been mentioned, I saw there was a recent article in the news about the new mail facility in Auckland, but sounds like it has a bunch of high tech scanning/sorting gear, so it might be likely that from now on, alot of stuff that might have slipped through now gets picked up, simply because every package is being checked, and might not even be a person making that decision...?

They mentioned enhanced scanning and processes for biosecurity and drugs, but maybe also applies to other prohibited (or perceived prohibited) items.

Yup, so this issue might be about to bite everyone who imports items privately. Imagine the ballache if they start stopping scopes, projectiles etc

Use a customs agent. provide them with the airwaybill number as soon as its issued. They intercept and take control of the customs clearance process and onforward the product using a third party. It will cost quite a bit more but at least you get your gear.

Straight from Google's mouth: Our own Govt making it harder and harder to do legitimate activities:

"New Zealand Post is a company with over 170 years of history. Since 1987, it has operated as a State Owned Enterprise (SOE) with the NZ Government as the 100% shareholder".
