Zastava are great and for reasonable prices. Any rifle within reason will do the job. Go for a second hand one, get a reasonable scope and spend the leftover on ammunition. That will make you a far better hunter than an expensive rifle on a diet, confined to the safe.
yes. $1 ranger scopes actually are awesome. you can easily disassemble them by hand and the lenses on each end make very good magnifying glasses.
Weatherby Vanguard is also a Howa 1500 by another name. I have somehow ended up with 3 Savage Model 16/110's (maybe because they look very similar so every time my wife sees me with it, hopefully she thinks its the same rifle!). All shoot very well, pretty sure the Savage's are known for it, but are a bit more agricultural than the Tikka/Sakos and others. I belive their bolt design contributes to the consistency of shot, but also makes them feel a bit clunky compared to some. Maybe others can comment? But I like them, and having a rifle you have confidence in is important.
You don't have to spend a fortune to get a good scope, but you do tend to get what you pay for. I have a couple of Vortex Vipers which I like for dialling, not too expensive but also rate the Vixen scopes - Japanese made, good glass, I reckon they punch above their weight price-wise. Also have a couple of the mid range Nikko Stirling scopes, nothing wrong with them. I have several rifles as you may guess, none were bought new apart from an H&R single shot 308 bought in the 90's. Some have been a real bargain, and there are plenty of good second hand rifles on the market these days.
I see on trade me a Monarch 30-06 BSA rifle with a Bushnell Dusk&Dawn 3-9x40 scope thats near me if anyone can tell me if its worth it?

keep looking mate thats way over priced they were an okay rifle in their day now likely hard to get parts for - 30-06 may be a bit much for a new shooter even though its a good caliber no not for you but same era a BRNO 270 or 308 a good one maybe worth - cheaper budget rifle from that era that shot extremly well and that is the Remington 788 - some will shoot as good as modern rifles ever willQuote:

A Howa 7mm08 with leupold scope and a suppressor for $1400? That’s a steal. 7mm08 would basically be right in the middle of 308 and 270.
Pick up only in Whanganui... Not sure about an.8 hour round trip otherwise if it was closer I would have snatched itQuote:
