    GPO Super Compact scope thoughts

Giday all - looking at GPOs newish super compact scopes. They do a 3-12 which is about 10 inches compared to most 2-12 or 3-15s which are 12-13 inches. Wondering if anyone has any experience or thoughts on these before pulling the trigger on one. The few reviews online seem to be positive but there’s not many of them. One thing I can see out the gate is that being so short, there’s less tube to mount and my existing setup (tikka with Talley rings) might not work. From what I’ve read they’re intended to be used on centrefires and aren’t just a rimfire/air gun scope. NZ Ammo and Reloaders appear to have them in stock

    Cheers for any thoughts

I doubt it would fit tallys on a tikka it only just fits talley on a mini action and Kimber. I have a 4-16x44 i may list for sale shortly. Why is it you want a short scope? That seems the least useful part. It's weight and features are what appealed to me

The biggest issue with a compact scope is getting eye relief correct. It's the same problem as rifle only allowing rings in one place close together.it either works for you or is a bit sucky. The oldest m8 Leupolds I own have longest barrel/ body so are awesome to mount ,even on long action rifles because I can fit them Where they line up best.

Certainly nice and compact and sub 10inches, Ive just put a new Burris Fullfield 2.5-10 on my Superlight and at 10.5inchs its nice and handy, sadly no GPO budget for me

    I've played with a compact 4-16 a bit.
It's wasn't a bad scope, but didn't blow me away.
The reticle was very thin which means you'll be relying on illumination at low magnification, or in low light.

Unless you specifically need an ultra short scope, or you like some specific features of those scopes I wouldn't go out of my way to buy one.

Funnily enough I got to fondle one in the local the other day.

    This was the 4-16 model.

For the price ans features it was very good value.

Definitely food for thought that's for sure.Name: 20250722_091235.jpg

Out of interest can some one tell me the purpose they would have to choose a compact scope?

    Absolutely @whanahuia

On the basis they weigh less and are less likely to get hung up on bush lawyer et. There will be pros and cons obviously but I think it comes down to weight, length and wanting to keep the overall setup light and portable.

One of these gpos in the 4-16 just screams; put on model 7 super bushpig.

Prolly use a rail to optimize position.

Americans run NV/thermals that are picatinny rail mounted, so with a long scope you can run out if real estate mount the device without going to something with a longer forend.

Pretty much the only reason to go so short.

Ok yeah, I understand the weight theory. Just my experience with short scopes has been the PIA of mounting for eye relief. I really rate my GPO, but went searching for a Swaro when weight was my focus.
