@Steelisreal and I decimated a mob of pigs at the weekend. They were 200m away and I used a 20" Grendel, shooting 100gr NBT's at 2800fps. Contrary to what Bagheera is saying, the trajectory of that is not at all loopy - it's easily on par with a 308, inside of standard hunting ranges. And the pigs all dropped on the spot so I would not have necessarily been better off with the extra energy of a 308 or speed of a 260 either. More foot pounds or an extra 300fps couldn't have made them any deader any quicker.

Bigger animal, longer range, yeah maybe I'd have been undergunned. But Grendel has a niche in NZ, at least for me. I'd have been hesitant about taking the same shots with a 223, yet I didn't fancy carrying around a larger, heavier, short action rifle. Grendel gives ~50% more energy over a 223 and fits in the same small packages. Perfect.

Admittedly, factory ammo choices are limited and a bit meh. SST's are hit and miss in terms of accuracy for many and velocity is handicapped a) for the sake of AR's gas systems and b) because it's all 123gr. Reload for it in a bolt gun and it really comes alive.

Doubt it's going anywhere any time soon.
