If I recall correctly there was a thread on here a couple of months back that had a link to a website that gave a comparison between products and their rust preventative qualities. Try and find it or cut straight to Google. As I recall one product stood out like hairy dogs nuts as being the best.

depends, are you cleaning carbon, copper, or looking for a rust preventative?

That is the sort of test I was talking about but the one I read had far more.

I have used G96 in the past and while it smells like bubblegum it is bloody good stuff one of these days I will have to get another can of it along with some inox as that stuff also is good for fishing gear as it does not bugger up your mono

get out a week or month or whatever later put a very tight patch threw.
no blue on patch its clean.
blue on patch use a copper solvent.

Yup, I remember that thread. The standout oil was Eezox, because I immediately went and bought some

EDIT: I must be thinking of a different thread actually, as I just found the recent one and this comparison was posted. Is that the one that you were thinking of? In it, Eezox performs well but nowhere near as well as the top oils.

Yep that comparison was the one that I had read. Thanks Josh. I had worked out hat next time I need to resupply I was going to get the Hornady One Shot.

One of the things that I never realised was the impact of the toxins in a lot of the cleaning products. I've seen a lot of American YouTube clips where the person demonstrating his cleaning method was wearing surgeon style gloves and I just thought they were "soft". As it transpired - they wear them for good reason ... and now, so do I. I use Ballistol as a lubricant and protector on most of my weaponry now for this reason. You will note that Hickok45 only uses Ballistol for everything and he has probably shot more rounds than anyone on the planet. As for cleaning - I still use traditional products but wear gloves. As an aside - if you put your hands in diesel - it stays in your body for years ... some say up to 10 years ... hmmm.
Anyway - just an FYI. Keep safe in the hills. Gunzrrrr

Couldnt it be the blueing coming off? I'd expect green for copper, but frankly I think ppl over-clean barrels.

You're right - after a working life of putting my hands in electrical solvents and a few other some gun cleaning products give my hands hell. I tried wearing dishwashing glove (there's an analogy somewhere about that!) but hated them. Tried surgical gloves for a while then gave up but then complain when my finger tips crack and sting like mad.
