Not the best photo with the lighting at this time of night, but I'm excited. This is my first centrefire rifle.

There are many like it, but this one is mine. People will likely say I've made a bad choice for a hunting rifle, to those people I say "Go away, I'm having fun and not hurting anyone."
I'll take glamour shots at a later date.

Needs more 20rd Mags and wood. M1As are fun rifles. Bought one as a gift for my old man. It was the Scout Squad Model, 18 inch barrel with the front railed scope mount. It likes it more than the AR pattern rifles. He keeps it as his HD piece. He's still in Miami and looting after Hurricanes is common. He's also 30+ year retired Homicide Detective and worked during the 80s Drug Wars.
Signature removed because some people are intolerant of me being American.

20rd mags just seems like extra weight to carry. I'd like to get a 10rd (pinned to 7) for appearance/ease of handling purposes, but that's low priority, coming after a nice DPT suppressor and maybe an optic upgrade. I like the look of wood, but seamlessly filling the selector hole on a USGI stock is easier on fibreglass. If home defense were a concern for me, I think I'd prefer something in .223. From what I've read, it's about the least likely to cause overpenetration chaos. Short barrel .308 seems like it would risk blinding/deafening the defender as well.

The aforementioned USGI stock, after some sanding and filling, before painting.

My Dad is set in his ways. He's never been a fan of 5.56. He's from the generation of the M1 Granad and 12 gauge 00 Buck. Hell, when he started he carried a S&W Model 10 on a cross draw holster and reload on a dump pouch.

But that is one fine rifle you have there. Enjoy her, treat her nicely, and she'll be with you until the end of time.
