Hi all.
My savage 99 in 358 win is working out to shoot better than I expected.
Out for a quick shoot on Sunday at only 75 yd but still the 158gr gave me about 1/2" centre to center and about 3/4 for the 225gr.
scope is a 1-4x with#4 reticle.
What I did start to notice was how gritty the trigger pull is.
The other 99 I shoot in 243 had a trigger job along time back and is much crisper.
Anyone got any suggestions as to who may have worked on these before.

Gundoc maybe the man to talk to about this. Not much he hasn't worked on over the years.
The M99 is fairly easy to do a trigger job on. When you remove the stock you will see a vertical sliding plate attached to the trigger. The striker contact surface of the plate needs to be polished to remove the gritty feel, and also the corresponding surface on the striker. Make sure the surfaces stay flat and not rounded off on the edges. The creep can be reduced by shortening the point on the trigger plate, but go very carefully! It is easy to take too much and have an unsafe trigger. As the bolt is closed the striker slides up the trigger plate until it is retained by a short surface. Too much off that can cause the rifle to fire as the action is closed.
