Unfortunately it wont be tested again today.
It will be tested with another optic setup in an attempt to confirm (or deny) the initial findings.

If the rifle shoots well with one of our known-good scopes then we can definitively say that the rifle is fine and the optic is at fault.
If the rifle does not shoot well with our known-good optic setup then we can place blame on the rifle, in which case any issues will be rectified to the end-users satisfaction.
Initial findings are looking like an issue with the current scope but further testing must be done to confirm the initial findings.

Its rare for a rifle to shoot 3inch groups and for the issue to be anything other than the scope/mount setup. Even a worn out pitted barrel would generally shoot better than 3 inches, so it would have to be a pretty serious defect to produce accuracy that bad, but on the other hand it's easy for a dodgy scope setup to produce accuracy that bad.

Out of interest, what was the other scope that it was tested with? What type of rest(s) did you use? How much experience do you have shooting tight groups? (the reason I ask re experience is that your first post implies that you could be new to the shooting sports - I mean no disrespect)

Just hang in there and we will get to the bottom of it. Either way when all is said and done you WILL have a rifle that shoots well

To answer your questions, firstly the other scope is a Weaver Grand Slam 3-10x40. These are parallax free at the range I was shooting...100 yds. This was mounted on Optiloks which would not work with the larger scope, hence the change in mount set up. The front rest is a Caldwell Rock rest with a bag at the rear.I am 61 and have been shooting since my army days in my early twenties. I have a .300 WM which I shoot sub moa. The Super Slam on the Sako came off an AR15 with a heavy barrel which I used to shoot sub moa groups and small animals ( possums at over 300 mtrs for example ).

    Thanks again for your help.

Yes - it was tested again with our optic setup and did not consider it to be as consistent as a Sako rifle should be.
Its been replaced with a brand new rifle.
Sako makes slick rifles. You WILL get what you pay for and you WILL be looked after in the event that it does not live up to expectations.

To the OP - enjoy your rifle and apologies for the frustrations.

I’m curious to know how the rifle passed it’s testing at the factory?
Isn’t the whole point of the factory test to ensure that it’s shooting at moa?
I remember an old howa I had where the test target was included in the box, that was pretty reassuring.

Who knows, the tester must have held his tongue just right. It did shoot several groups under and inch but it also shot several over so the consistency just wasn’t as it should be.
The issue with including test targets is everyone then wants to cherry pick the ones that shot the tightest test group, when a single test group doesn’t mean all that much. You will end up with customers calling around all shops requesting pictures of test targets etc which will just create problems for everyone.

@ChrisW from the way you have written this I assume that you are the shop owner.
I’d just like to congratulate you on some first class customer service. Maybe to you this is what it’s all about and comes naturally to you.
But it seems that it’s a dying art these days.....(either that our we just hear more about it)

Anyway good on you for coming on here and testing the rifle and scope and coming up with answers which seem to have ticked all the box’s!
If I was your customer I’d be very happy! I assume he is???

Some will understand that as a man made they are prone to being faulty as I posted before. Some won’t understand this.

PS I’d stay away from the boats they look like nothing but a headache
