HELP Blaser Barrel with Blaser Mount loosening Issue

    Hi All,

So I have had a crazy time with a Blaser barrel I bought. It had a donor barrel and was re-barrelled from my understanding but will put some pictures to see if this is the case. Someone might even recongnise it. My issue is after sometimes one shot or a couple of shots the blaser mount lugs start to loosen. I have had no issue with this mount and scope on my other blaser barrels and adjusted it so it was appropriately tight as it was quite different to my other blaser barrel.

Obviously while trying to build a load for this my scope is moving so that has driven me around in circles. Any help welcome?

Those witness marks where the mount has contacted - why is that the only one that has them? Work that out and you might have your answer, it's almost like that one is a different diameter to the others and the mount isn't fitting correctly?

I can see multiple potential problems

The stubbing and screwing in of the blanks might have thrown out the size fractionally
Possibly an after market saddle mount
Both the sockets on the right are slogged or hammered out on the outside edge
The parallel wear marks are unsuual
Was the barrel ceracoated or duracoated after stubbing

My pick from the unusual lines are that the mount is primarily at fault but that being stubbed and coated there might be a few other small problems feeding into the larger mount fault.
There just shouldn't be wear on the outside of the socket because the force is inwards.

Do you have other mounts, how do they perform on that barrel?
I can swap mounts on various barrels with no need for adjustments. Wasn't actually aware there was adjustment on them.

    Same here
Used too have 5 barrels 3 actions and untold mounts and all mounts worked equally well across the entire lot.

Saddle mounts ranged from very old model to latest genuine Blaser and a couple of Inomounts

One barrel from memory was a little bit fussy as too which mount it preferred.

Now only have a K95 and a couple of saddle mounts for that.
But never had any marks on the barrel from the mounts like the OPs images

Yes two of them are. The 300wsm I don't have much info on but it has been re-barreled by Hardy I think its a hardy barrel, the .257 Weatherby magnum is actually a 6.5x284 with a Shilen barrel. This one I have had no issue with and used for the last 10 years with the same Blaser mount that I have tried to use on the 300wsm. I have tried other blaser mounts, old style and new and they too won't go between barrels they need to be adjusted.

The 222 is original Blaser and the tolerance for the mount between that the the .257 I have to adjust the mounting screw's as it couldn't be interchanged without doing that.

Yea I agree, I think If I can't find a blaser mount that will do it then I will have to go after market or screw in a picatinny rail which it looks like the old owner did. I at least want to try that so I don't burn more $$$ on chasing a load.

I have 4 barrels for my R8. I can only swap a mount between two of the barrels and you can feel a slight difference in tensions when locking up the levers.
Each barrel has its own mount which i believe is what you have done?
While there are images of the recesses on the barrel show some wear marks, they don't appear to be of consequence. Do the lugs on the mount show wear that could be a factor?

If not I'd just look at the fitting of the mount to the barrel and use the mount adjustment screws to firm up the mount and look for any sources of play in the mount locking mechanism.
