    - for robbing a place with a firearm?

When I talked to the police when they did their tour of New Zealand a couple of months ago, they mentioned that the problem also was the judiciary system that was letting criminals back in the street too early.

The other issue is that Nationals are already preparing themself for the next election,so that is probably why that mp is drafting things now.
And the worst thing is that with the current majority of idiots at the parlement , that sort of draft could get passed very easily.

    My thoughts.

for being in possession of a firearm when not being a licence holder of any type.Home detention? I know of only one case and that is what was handed down. Illegal possession of drugs and drug paraphanaliw, loaded home made pistil ON HIS PERSON and another firearm and ammo lying about. Tattooist that works from home and admitted getting paid with drugs- 6 months Home det for firearms and 9 months Home Det for drug charges.
    - for robbing a place with a firearm? Probably a bit puffed from running- cops seem to struggle to catch these pricks and most seem to be dealt with by youth court- (or should that be youff caught?)

Please dnt get me wrong. The cops on the street have a tough job and do their best. But more resources would go a log way to improving their abilities- far more than throwing money at silly laws that will bog them down in paperwork.

aren't sawn off (not professionally shortened, registered and legal class) firearms illegal already? WTF do we need more legislation for.
Is it the MP's fault or the coppers trying to push their agenda again?

Here’s what I just got back, I got the 1st response so sent another email and this is the response

Yes we are aiming at gangs shortened firearms and increasing the penalties for that group.

It will be changed over next few eeeks once we have taken emails and feedback into account.

this is what i got back:

    Hi Paul

Thanks for your comments on the draft document. Feedback has been good and the wording will be changed to be more specific. The purpose is to increase punishment - not to affect legitimate users.

    Regards

    Alastair

He is responding to everyone with the same pathetic 3 liner

This is what I sent back...

    Feedback has been good, hahahaha.

I don't think you actually comprehend how stupid your proposal is. You are supposed to be a National Party MP... you know, someone who has the support of rural, conservative voters.

Forget trying to put a positive spin on this, I will wager that your colleagues and more importantly the electorate office and voters of the Wairarapa will show you exactly what they think of your performance.

Maybe you should consider a move to the greens or to run for the Police Association, seems like something you would be more suited to.

The whole thing needs to be dropped. What they are after is already covered in the current legislation, which they just need to use.

It's a good thing no-one jumped to conclusions and started firing off abusive or nose-out-of-joint emails before finding out exactly what was actually intended by this proposed amendment.

Yeah but gangs don't follow the f#%king rules!?! Throw all the legislation you want at them and waste our taxes too, it ain't gonna do shit.

Also, the response he or his office provided to you ^^^ is an our right lie, if it were true then why does it only mention "special reasons" to possess shortened rifles? And having a valid 12 month permit?? Not to mention "hand-in's" for destruction with no compensation etc...

My counter-response to him would be: If what you are saying was remotely true, then this "draft" would ascertain harsher penalties to real criminals and gangs - Not have it written so it target's law abiding firearm owner's and implements more hoops for us to jump through, that ultimately makes zero difference at all. As it stands, it's the latter of the two.

It seems they will never admit their true intentions to us but we will continue to push back - Relentlessly.

how about all that money spent on shiny new speed cameras? spend it on training dogs and handlers instead. that would do a lot of good, Id personally like to read more stories of crims getting eaten by happy police dogs.
OR.... Komodo dragons, they would make a good police lizard, the bites would really teach the scum how we value their presence.

I think the mp's are paid to do a job and that job includes knowing what they are about to release from their pathetic mouths. So if they dont do sufficient research then they deserve all the abuse that comes their way.

if I cock up, i pay for it, so can they.

...problem is with poorly drafted legislation, is that the Courts have to interpret and "guess" at Parliaments intention.... guess who pays for being a test case.
Otherwise - well done on pointing out that some have taken a very dim view of the proposals; now ask yourself: can you blame anyone for questioning everything that is proposed?

treat all politicians and police representatives the same, liars until proven otherwise. then proceed with extreme caution.
