Here's a stupid question on ar mags...

At the range today, there were 4 bolt actions that accepted AR mags (.223) and 3 others that accepted AR pistol grips and butts. This is a basic Mossberg bolt gun, a chassis type rifle etc etc.

Seeing as now 5-round or higher mags that fit semi-autos require an E-cat endorsement to purchase and apparently any component that could fit onto semi will be targeted for buyback, what happens to those firearms - part of the buyback as well?

Where did you get this part from ?

The order relates to SEMI-AUTO rifles and shotguns. Not to bolt action firearms, or to magazines.

At this stage, bolt action rifle with whatever you can fit to it is un-affected. In a day or 2 that may change...

This is one of the , usual anomalies , unforeseen outcomes of the " All knowings who know nothing " creating Laws . Unfortunately until our " Betters " inform us , the peasants , WTF is going on we are all in the dark

From two gun shops by request of the Police. Seems all non-semi action firearms that use magazines that also fit a semi auto are now fitted with a banned part and will be subject to the recall. Samey same for any part essential for the functioning of a banned semi, such as butts, pistol grips, tubes, etc etc so every non-semi action firearm that requires one of these parts for functioning is now useless. So, the 100-200 million estimated cost has basically just blown out to 1-2 billion NZD.

And, in the time since March 15 about 20 have dies on our roads yet there is no move to similarly "buy-back" unsafe motor vehicles.

Surely just the magazines will be banned? Will a Mossberg MVP not work with the five round magazine it comes with?

It's an AR compatible mag, detachable so is now a banned part. I've contacted my local MP with a view to trying to get an urgent sit down - basically I'm bloody concerned about the end cost of what they are signing us up for, Also, the fact politicians, police and bureaucrats don't seem to have a handle on what this is likely to cost as well as how hard it's going to be to contact everyone who doesn't realise they are now not complying with a drag net law...

Yeap, near on everything looks to be included in some form or another. This is going to be hugely expensive unless they are not planning to offer any compensation at all. I don't know how this is going to be able to be afforded by the country, this is going to send NZ into a recession considering there is no real option for locally mass-produced hunting arms.

Unintended consequences of offering too little, or no compensation would be the high chance of getting more money offered by a gang member.

Probably not an unintended consequence, more like a "I don't give a rats arse, the minions will do what I want but I have to look like I care about them too" consequence...
