    How accurate is a Cz 457 .22?

Hi guys, I’m looking at selling three rifles from my safe to buy one Cz 457, I’m looking at the Royal and stainless synthetic, my question is how accurate should one be? It will be a field rifle mostly, 16” or 20” barrel, mostly running subsonic rounds, I know it depends on ammo that each individual gun likes, but is it worth the money in your opinion?
I’ve got three .22 for sale but I’ve just read the rules and it seems I won’t have access to the buy and sell feature for awhile
    Cheers

There great, I've got a 22lr American and a 22lr MTR, with the right Ammo and no wind I can get 3/4" groups at 100m with the American or one big hole at 50. The MRE has a bull barrel and is phenomenal. Kind of rifle you can shoot flies off a cow shit at 100 with

Generally good. But as you say, it's going to vary from rifle to rifle, ammo to ammo, shooter to shooter. So how to attempt to answer this?

    Somewhere between a Vudoo and a 10/22

When you say field rifle, you mean hunting?

The models with the match chamber are meant to be considerably more accurate, all the match ones I've seen are very good.

You are going to be limited by ammo unless you get a truely terrible one, subsonic hunting ammo is fairly terrible if shooting targets but for hunting (at normal distances) it's just fine.

CZ 452 owner here. After a bit of tweaking, I've got it to be tack driver. I would imagine the same from a CZ 457, but I've never shot one. I would choose a short bull barrel. Can't see a downside for this choice on a 22LR.

What tweaks out of interest? Chopping the barrel I guess?

Barrel chop to 15". Accuracy was good before, but better now.

    Yo-Dave trigger springs.

How much of a gain in accuracy did you get chopping the barrrel down?

as for the cz457, I've got a run of the mill 452, with a yo dave trigger spring. For a $600 rifle, that thing shoots far superior than I can, I would hope the newer 457 would be the same. As others have mentioned, it's really the ammo that's one of the biggest variables. If you want to really tighten your groups, match grade is the way to go. Play around with different brands, find what the rifle likes, do a cost-benefit analysis and buy a bulk of that ammo. Ive found norma tac to be consistent enough for my shooting

Nice, thank you. I have the poor man's version (jw15), shoots well, sub 1 inch at 50m but loves to throw a flyer far left or right

Yeah hunting in the field, rabbits and magpies, I’ve got a euro stock 455 .22 but it doesn’t group very well, I’m going to try free float the barrel as it’s touching, it’s got a aftermarket trigger and 4-12x40 scope, but yes it’s probably me and the ammo, cci subs and USA Winchester subs, I tried some old Remington subs and they were more accurate, any other subsonic brands readily available you recommend, a matter of trying some more, then buy bulk of what works best, it’s cut to 16” from 20”, I never got a chance to fire it at 20” as things worked out, just hoping I didn’t hurt its accuracy

Does anyone know how long I need to be a member before I can use the buy sell feature? I was a member about 13 years ago but forgot my log in so started new, just wanted your expert opinions on the price I should put on 3 .22 I’d like to sell, I’ve put them on trademe but maybe my prices aren’t right yet

    Cheers

the market is very flat right now, theres a nice cz455 with warne rings at $450 no reserve, its been sitting around for a bit with no interest. Bloody cheap buying if you ask me. Just the way things are atm. People wont jump unless its exxcatly what they want or its too cheap to pass up

I'm no gimp, but from memory, I was shooting 0.75 - 1 inch groups at 50 metres which tightened up to a cloverleaf after the chop. It might not have been all attributable to the chop as I made the other changes around the same time. I probably got better too!

    You can't go wrong with a CZ457.
And I'm saying that as a T1x fan boy.
Both will shoot better than most owners. Comes down to personal preference which you prefer, and what 457 model.
