How best to return a scope overseas?

It has developed into a new issue after twice having the scope rejected as a prohibited item by NZ Post. The second time I labelled it as a Theodolite, and after speaking to NZ Post was unofficially told to do so as anything with rifle in it will be picked up.

So how can you post a scope back to the point of sale other than NZ Post, or EMS (agent is NZ Post), or DHL (NZ Post agent)??

Keen to hear from those that have not those that haven't.

The gunstore in Oz got it sorted for me via Toll, really doing everything they can which is great.

It's a telescope.

Are if your sending it back then isn't it a BUM scope:D

Yep,...and despite a declared value of $3k turns out they didn't use a tracking number. Good job NZ Post.

I have been send scopes into NZ and just called them "Optics" or "Vortex Optics" without any holdup. You could also claim it to be a "Spotting Scope". If you have to use a HS tariff # try 900510. In the meantime, never use post without insurance. NZ Post are notorious in telling you - "Lost In Transit" sorry - no care, no responsibility. (Auspost just the same). Lost a PLB a couple of years ago, so I tried to report the "theft" with NZ Police, but as the sender, I have to report it to the Aust Police who then refer it to Interpol, who then pass it onto NZ Police... What a load of sheep #$%t.

Sending a prohibited item takes any responsibility away from the carrier unfortunately.

It isn't prohibited....which is what fucks me off.

It's a Bit ironic that NZ Post will deliver the same brand of scope to an address in NZ when contracted to do so by Australia post, but they won't let you send one back out to Aussie. ??

Keep hounding them for insurance payout, however I thought they only cover up to $2000?

They damaged a scope I sent once and took me 2 months of constant ringing to get $1000 out of them.

On the list of things they will not accept is collectables. There is the odd stamp collector about so essentially when you put a postage stamp on your letter that takes it into the not accepted category.

Huh?

On the NZ Post list of prohibited items, it has firearms or firearm parts. Call it something else all you like, a rifle scope isn't a Theodolite and we all know that. They don't even have to return it to you or provide any cover for loss or damage.

The policy is misinterpreted by DHL. A scope is not an integral firearm part.

What a load of horse shit. Glad it's not me sending or I would have well and truely lost it.
Prohibited or not, they have lost the damn thing. They need to find it. Pronto.

Reading the list of restricted items and the reference to the scope it is not an integral part of the firearm it is a part that can be added. That would be like saying a telescope is prohibited because you can strap it to a gun.
Hope you get the money back and a new scope!

Bank cards and credit cards and stamps appear on the prohibited list, any one get theirs in the mail recently? They dont know what they are doing clearly

UPDATE. The scope is delivered to Queensland Gun Exchange....who have sent me proof of life :)

So...no problem sending as theodolite. NZ Post completely confused matters when I got a second call saying they returning it as prohibited (when I had already collected and reposted)...anyway too hard to explain.

Next update on the solution hopefully.

Well done, I had a similar moment sending stock to Norway, got told it had been turned around in Germany, but it ended up in Norway. Hugh sigh of relief by two people.

Yep. They have suggested replaced with a demo as easier for their accounts people. I have said no a demo has less resale value for me and the scope was as new as the day they sent it so should be replaced with same.

Good to see the warranty is going to be honoured. The blow off valve must have been close to venting when they offered you an ex demo :XD: after all the f@#kn around.

Was pretty close but they have been great - NZ Post....not so much.

Sort of. I got an insurance payout as could show scope lost in NZ. Aussie shipper hasn't come to the party so lost about $6-700. Put payout into S&B and ultrashort.

Oh true that sucks. I'm waiting for a scope to come from Oz now. Took under 24 hrs to get to nz and since it got here slowed down, guessing they want the Gst. How is the ultra short going so far @Tikka7mm08.

Yea I haven't used mine much as yet, only a trip to the range so far. Waiting for the 4-16 f1 atacr to get here. Herd good things about them.

That was the scope that went AWOL. Great scope.

Ha oh I thought you lost a 5-25 atacr. Oh well touch wood mine gets here. Went through delta tactical. Been really good to deal with so far.

I'm not sure how they get away with stealing so much stuff and just say it's lost/misplaced.

Not one fark could be given when they rang to say they searched and it could not be found. Apparently was delivered 7:11pm...we are rural and pretty sure the postie, who we know well, is not delivering stuff at that time.
