    How big's ya schnabel?

Hi all, I'm trying to decide how big to go with the schnabel on the stock I am building. I have plenty of timber to work with:

I was initially thinking something on the smaller end like the K95's have, but then thought why not go a bit bigger like the 2nd picture?

Just work it down until you like it
    Personal taste

When stock building even when you think it's right you keep going back and refining things over and over.

I have at least a dozen rifles with schnabels and most are very slight, more aesthetic than functional.

It's definitely more for aesthetics than functionality, I think I will start big and work my way down

Like Sun Tzu once said, "bigger is always bigger."

The k95 one is attractive because of its "organic curve" which matches the grain of the timber. If it was a straight join it would be ugly by comparison

I reckon the BSA had about the right size.

When I first saw the thread title, I thought it was a rather personal question..

Anyway, can someone tell me the practical value of a schnabel? Never figured that out.

That’s a bit confusing given the number that have sling swivels up there.

Also, it’s unusual to be grasping any forend at the tip
