    How low are low optilocks

I can't seem to sift thru the bullshit on this
My steel rings on my sako 75 won't allow the zeiss terra 3-9x42
It's not far off but it contacts the barrel
The optilocks I like are the ones without the seperate base or one piece type

Right enough background, how low are low optilocks
The rings I have are 7mm from the flat of the action to the bottom of the scope tube
I think I would need probably 9 for an easy fit with enough space

Anyone able to shed some light?
Also other ring ideas are fine not just optilocks but it seems like it's either leupold steel or optilocks in nz or full blown Gimp style rail

Rail. All of my sakos have them. Way better imo. 1 Near mfg rail and two waitaki engineering rails. Both work well.

    Sako 85 260. 20moa waitaki

    Sako 75 338 edge. Near 20 moa

    Sako 75 7mm saum. 30moa waitaki

I like to be able to change scopes with out any hassle. Also found optilok s take away alot of elevation.

One piece only come in one size. Got to the Sako website and have a look at the specs

Gibo is correct, the direct ring mounts only come as low. Image here shows the different sizes of both types.
Beretta now stocks the Contessa range of rails etc which are very high quality but not cheap.
You could consider that route if you end up going with a rail as opposed to the ring/base combo.

For some reason they measure the rings from the bottom of the part that goes into the v part of the action to the middle of the scope
Makes no sence to my sick brain

I just wanna know how much space the lows have between the round bit of the scope and the flat of the action

    O

I'm not planning a Dial at this stage but chances are eventually the zeiss will come off as it seems like a can't get a turret for that particular model

Sorry can’t help you with the optilock rings but I’m a big fan of running rails and using Near stainless steel rail on my Sako 75, it a really nice bit of kit.

Richard Near is really good to deal with too. He also makes stainless steel rings too.

Is there a consensus on the rails to which is better? And do both require drilling and tapping?

No drilling & tapping required with the Contessa Rails.

Why bother with a rail, opti lows will be fine with a 42mm objective

The zeiss seems to have a really short tube which puts the bell right over the Knox chamber part of the barrel
I'm thinking the unmarked steel rings I have are extra low, they worked fine with a leupold vx1 3-9x40
That 42mm objective and short tube is the thing

Anyway how low are low optilocks?

i use low optilocks on my sako's, and i run z5 3x18x44 on both of them, on my old finnlight 75 i had a zeiss on for a while and it fitted alright,
if you are looking for some lows i have some here than you can try first and if they work, buy off me, if they don't then send them back..
