Hunting rifle stocks - a short survey

Hi everyone,

I've been fiddling around with a prototype rifle stock design.

I know what I'd like in a stock, but I'm curious about whether it's the kind of thing that might be useful or desirable for other hunters - so I'm trying to gather a bit more data.

Particularly, I'm interested in what people find attractive (or not) regarding the use of wood as a stock material.

Done, Ill add the most hideous stock (in my eyes) I have ever seen would be the boyds thumbhole stocks. Probally ergonomic and shooter friendly but just too damned ugly.

I like the normal thumbhole ones but I'd give the most hideous award to their 'SS evolution' and 'barracuda' designs.

I have one of these: Savage Arms and the ergonomics really are very nice.

im not a great fan of bumhole stocks either

The questions are pretty ambiguous yes, but all together it's building a bit of a picture of what attributes folks consider more valuable than others. It's all useful!

Do you want a fancy stock for bench shooting or a rough stock for bush hunting?
Also "looks" are so variable that the question seems silly - we've all looked at someone else's girlfriend/car/house/taste in music and thought "what the fuck?" from time to time

Lol I just finished the survey stating the Boyds thumbhole I have is the best stock I have got (carbon Hunters edge x 2, Mcmillian A5). The Boyds is a seriously nice to hunt with. The weight is the only reason I went with the carbon stocks on my light guns. For the money they are very good stocks.
As with anything on a forum you well never get a straight answer. Even if you do who should you believe, your mate who knows just as much as you, or some bloke you don't know. This line of question is so open to opinion there is no right or wrong answer.
