    Importing old blackpowder percussion pistol

Hi all, after some advice. Do you need a permit to import and old ladies black powder pistol. My aunt and uncle are moving back from Aus and he has asked me to dig a little.

I thought you didn't for black powder. But because it's a pistol??

Thanks in advance for any help.

When I checked into similiar situation, an antique pistol that did not fire using a cartridge, ie, a muzzleloader, or a percussion cap pistol, you didn't need a license for because it was considered an antique. Whether that means you can import one I don't know, I was just looking into possessing one.

    From the arms act 1983

    antique firearm means—
    (a)
    any firearm that—
    (i)
is held in the possession of any person solely as an antique (but not as a copy or replica of an antique); and
    (ii)
is not designed for firing, and is not capable of firing, rimfire or centrefire cartridge ammunition; or
    (b)
any firearm declared by regulations made under this Act to be an antique firearm for the purposes of this Act

It a good idea for the person in possesion of the Pistol in Aus to check at their end wether or not they are in legel posession of the gun before seding it.It shouldn't be a problem at this end.

You need an Import Permit to import any firearm, including antiques. See the Arms Act 1983, Sec 16, which says 'any firearm'. An 'antique firearm' is exempt from certain provisions of the Act but is still a 'firearm' for the purpose of import.
