Importing stock kit = import permit required?

As per question above - RUGER® 10/22® ARCHANGEL ARS CONVERSION PACKAGE | Brownells

I'm thinking of importing this kit in Desert Tan and then changing out the butt-stock to become A-Cat compliant. However as it currently has an adjustable butt-stock which makes it E-Cat if mounted to a semi. Would I need a permit to import or...?

I would say yes if it comes with the pistol grip and no if it does not. Best be would be to take the spec's and see your local AO (arms officer) and get them to yay or nay,

personally I would apply for a permit from them while I was there just to be sure , also its over the magic $00 so Brownells will need to arrange an export permit
All those with dogs waiting no longer fear death. Those with many dogs waiting even welcome it in it's time.

Lady I was speaking to today about my E-cat was saying even if your wanting to import collapsible stock for A cat you will need permit, and that almost all request for importing firearm parts are being referred through Wellington at the moment. She did admit she's not an expert on these things though so just go see the AO.

Having been though something similar a few months ago.. As it fits a semi auto and you intend to fit it to a semi auto and it has restricted mssa features, you will need a E cat endorsement to import it dispite you wanting to convert it to a cat when it arrives.
If you did it 8 months ago you would have been fine but not after the ammendment.

Thanks for the info mate. I don't think 8 months ago would have mattered as it already comes with an adjustable butt-stock therefore it sits in the E-category. I'm just trying to think through this in a logical step. Chassis is a chassis. Like a pistol grip is a pistol grip. Don't need an E to hold a pistol grip by itself. But when joined to a semi-auto, its an mssa feature. Complicated world we live in.

Yeah good point about the 8 month/collapsible stock thing. What you would need to do is get it shipped in A cat format first or get someone with their e cat to import it for you. Not impossible, just need to work with the system.

To be honest that was exactly the scenario I wanted to avoid as I think I'm about running out of excuses as to why I want to import an E-cat rifle again. My AO must think I work at the Treasury.
