Importing from USA

What are prohibited items to import? What do you need permits for?
I'm looking at butt stocks, pistol grips and other accessories?

Any receiver or action or MSSA part, ie pistol grip will need NZ import permits.
Any gun parts (rifle or pistol, but strangely not shotgun) totaling over US $100 need US export licenses, which costs an extra US $250.

Brownells, who are one pf the better US sellers for exporting stuff also don't send many Magpul parts, ie magazines or stocks to NZ, but do send buttstock pads and BUIs though.

NZ Police are also being d*cks over MSSA and AR receiver parts, even for an A-cat build.

Nothing is really prohibited, you just need the right permit for some items.

For A Cat firearms the only part which legally requires an import permit is the action. Police have decided that this is the upper and/or lower for an AR/AK.

For an MSSA, handgun or restricted firearm it is ANY part.

Brownells do export Magpul stocks and mags. They had a brief issue with export, but will export them currently.

If you want to import a pistol grip for an AR, collapsible buttock or magazines larger than 7 rds you will need an import permit. You need to complete a POL67B and a letter detailing your reasons for wanting to import them.

Niesje from Brownells told me on 15 March they wouldn't ship a STR stock to NZ, so if they've changed now, all good.

If you get shit from customs or your AO for some reason, they are taking their merry time with anything AR related then I'd suggest you get into contact with the; National Shooters Association. They know their shit and will help any one
