I recently bought a marlin 336 in 30-30 as a bush only gun.
Looking to improve the sights, what have others done either ghost ring, red dot or fixed power scope.

@scottrods
I replaced the standard sight on my Rossi 92 44 mag with Skinner aperture sights.
I see they do a similar set for the Marlin 336
1895 Sight
I like the skinner sight and on my little Rossi it's great for in close tight bush shooting.

I'd go with a fixed 2.5x scope or a 1.5-5x vari.
I would go with a 1x4 power scope mounted on top of an AR.
I got the model 92 sight that fits into the existing sights dovetail

I use a Trijicon RMR Red Dot Sight on my 45/70 lever gun, it's fast acquiring and works well, if the red dot is on it out to 100 Yards, its getting hit by the 400gn freight train :thumbsup:
Aperture (ghost ring) or red dot.
Hard to beat a red dot sight for speed
I found myself switching between the ghost ring sights and the red dot but still wasn't happy so, Isettled on a 2.5x scope, covers all bases from point blank out to 200yds.
I would be doubtful that anybody in Canterbury can do or buddy hunting like is common in the North island. Given that it would be handy to be able to take the occasional 150m shot which brings you back to a low powered scope. Lever actions weren't designed with scope minting in mind so that brings you back to an AR.
Nice buy Jonathan. I used a winchester 94 30-30 as bush rifle and speed shooting range rifle in north island. You can use open sights in the bush happily out to 100m on bigger animals if eg the vee is not too large. Personally I used a 2.5x leupy and that was perfect for 0-200 yard shooting. With new 160gr leverevolution ammos you'll drop reds at 250m, so a 1-4x varipower scope will be spot on.
Welcome to the lever fraternity.
4x scope or red dot, Attachment 68426
I have a 2-7 on mine. Love having the ability to extend the range even though it lives on 2x most of the time
