inReach no longer sending GPS pin in messages

    Brothers

If you have an inreach, try sending your own mobile, a family member or a friend, (as long as 2 of them are on different networks) a message and ensure the GPS location pin is turned on.

Myself and 2 other mates are finding the message is not sending a GPS link (some use that is to the Mrs!!)

Pivotel are giving us the runaround and telling us we need to sync and update SW, which we've done. Not any better.

If you have this same issue, please post here.

    Thanks

    Jonathan

Yep have had the same issue. In fact my Mrs is not even receiving my messages any more. Thinking about getting rid of it and sticking with good old fashion smoke signals!

I had the same. Off memory I fixed it in my settings on my Garmin Explore login. It’s a box you can tick and untick I think.

@scottrods - the location link was disabled last year for both Pivotel and Garmin InReach services.
The guts of it was that the NZ govts spam filter on international messages to NZ phones was stopping messages getting through at all.
Incidentally it’s also the reason some longer messages don’t arrive at the recipients phone, if it arrives in two messages (over 300-ish characters?) it’s seen as spam and filtered out.
On the Garmin InReach, you can select adding ‘send location’ or some such, but it comes through as a Lat/long in text format, rather than a link.

Nz is the only place in the world where it’s been disabled
From memory, it’s still working if you send the message to an email address (I’ll check tomorrow)

Just sent myself a message with SpotX to check this and it still sends a link to location and even a wee preview picture of map to SMS

Mine was working fine (including the clickable link to location on SMS) up until March this year. I have a ticket open with Pivotel currently who are talking to Garmin in my behalf. Be interesting to see what they come back with.

Wife just informed me my first text from the inReach Mini to her phone (sms) included the GPS lat/long only in the first of 3 texts I sent her over a couple of days during our trip a week or so back.

The NZ govt doesn't have such an SMS or even email filter. That's complete bollocks.

There must be some kind of update needed. All our work ones just got put on a table outside for the morning for Garmin to push an update too.

Update. Pivotel have confirmed that Garmin have instigated this because of NZ Telcos.
