    IZH 18 223

Step son in law picked up a real cheap IZH 18 223

i want to chuck a suppressor on it & load up some rounds for an Xmas present for them

Looks like the barrel twist 1-12, what weight projectiles work ok in them, 65-70 ???

His 270 WSM is a bit big for goats

Anyone steer me in the right direction, don't have a heap of time

55 to maybe 62 maximum with that twist, even then stick to std cup n core types for the heavier end. I had one and it shot 65 grain Winchester perfectly, mind you that bullet was a round nose not spitzer.

I have the same in 222, was my go to rifle for one 5 year stint. I had a stock of 60gn Hornady's on hand so loaded them up and they performed well. Grouped nicely and dropped animals. Also used the 63gn Sierra.

52grn speers or any basic cup n core 50-55grn great wee rifle just make sure to hang on properly when fireing.... you only got the one shot so dont fluff it by being to casual about posture etc. a smaller scope like pigplex 1-4 or 1-5 work well in low set of elcheapho 22lr mounts as they keep scope down low, close to bidy of rifle...dont want anything too long as the mounts will be no more than 5mm from the bulgy bit in guts of scope..no room to be wider.

you can put one of the air rifle type mounts on them..the ones that have solid base with two rings on top...no chance of rings being twisted then... have one set up each way and to be hones not a lot of difference although the air rifle base is better with bigger/longer scope.
these are a vastly underrated rifle.

Yes, designed with a secondary function for clubbing bears to death should you run out of ammo in siberia.

Like these...Some possibilities depending on the scope....Also note thatthe 'ramp' on the stock end of the action is ever so slightly higher than the scope base surface. If any part of the scope mount hands back past the breech opening, the ramp will need to be filed down so it does not stop the action closing completely.....I have helped with a few of these now so if you would like any assistance, PM me and happy to chat...

Id go the bulk hornady 55 grainers. Seem to work in most rifles if you dont want to try a heap of different pills and just get out there and use it
