    Jard 17wsm reviews

    Howdy,

The relatively new Jard semi in 17wsm has had my attention for a while what’s the deal with it ? From what I’ve heard it has trouble ejecting the cases is that due to the rifle or the cases them selves. Seems like a cool caliber to blast through that’s nz legal and packs more of a punch that the old 22mag.
YouTube does seem to have much on the Jard guns them selves but a few interesting videos of the 17wsm nail gun cartridge.
Any inside scoop on it ?

I've heard enough about the jard to stay well away as far as reliability goes....

Same issues with case ejection or more ? They’re base of ar platforms wouldnt though mechanically they’d be too far wrong but maybe rubbish materials ?

I’ve had a few of the bolt actions, I like the calibre. It’s the Dirty Harry of rimfires in terms of performance. Unfortunately it’s also a dirty cartridge full stop, I suspect that may be one factor for reliability issues in a semi. Perhaps that’s just a result of a decent amount of powder in the case (for a rimfire) having nowhere to go because of the small calibre. Anyway it’s fine in a bolt action, there’s also an under lever available now, suspect that may need careful cleaning but have no first hand experience with it. Devastating on possums, hares, rabbits etc.

What brand ammunition do you use to run in the bolt actions I think Winchester seems to be running the show on 17wsm in nz I may be wrong

Both Hornady and Winnie ammo comes from the same factory for 17WSM. I have a Jard 10/25 which is the 10/22 kind of version rather than their AR type. It uses a roller lock-up on the bolt and runs the Ruger 6 shot rotary mags. Took me ages to tune the extractor, it was leaving the case in the chamber every time until I got that right. The extractor is directly tensioned by a small spring at 90 degrees across the bolt rather than the tidy spring and plunger parallel to the bolt that the Ruger has. The Jard extractor is extremely finicky to install and shape to tune. Once its running, it goes well but fouls quickly. The cases split a lot.

10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.

The biggest problem with the cartridge, is the ammunition is dog shit. The concept is great. Even better if they'd done it based on 22 cal. But until CCI or Hornady make the ammo in house, rather than rebranded Winchester, I feel like it will always be a dog regardless of the gun.

The concept with the Jard's is fine really. In terms of an AR platform, I think the Franklin Armory system is probably better, being gas operated. Though they are prohibitively expensive for most people, and unavailable here, as someone threw their toys over them.

I have a hunting mate with one of the 17wsm semi autos that he uses to great effect and I quite like the idea of it
He runs it hard and isn’t particularly big on cleaning and it runs well on everything iv seen
More just a over power varmit round but pretty impressive for a rimfire
