Knife Restoring - help

Hey all,
So I have purchases a nice old knife, In need of a restoration and hopfully one day, I wil hand it down to my children and so on.
Where would I start? I was thining of taking the rivets off some how, and getting the steel sandblasted to begin with ? It obviously need some new accessoriest put into the knife, but will see to what extent once sand blastered.

How would you go about cleaning up the antler or bone in the handle ?

this is the beauty here.

you would need to be careful how you clean the antler, giving it a very lite scrub with cold water maybe. just be careful not to take its nature stain off

I was just thinking a bit of warm soapy water and a gentle wash.
Maybe a bleech afterwards and re-stain it.

don't think i would use bleach my self, I know using a water blaster on antler will take stain off. If i get blood say on a set of antler i will give it a lite scrub to get it of if its dried with no problems but i am no expert

thanks mate. I dont mine startuing it from a fresh / clean peice of antler. and letting it stain from my own use over the coming years. Itll mean more to me that way i think.

Strip it down then clean the metal parts on a wire buffer wheel to see what you have. The handle is not real antler by the looks.

If its not, I may fit real antler onto it and give some sort of carving ago my self ;)

I guess, salt water and a positive and negative current should clean the rust off then

I have only used an old bridge rectified battery charger and washing soda crystals and had fantastic results.
