    LEICA 1600 B. Broken

    Hey team.

Just a quick one. I have a Leica rangemaster 1600-b that cuts out randomly. Have changed the battery to no prevail. I understand that H&F usually look after the customer service side of things for Leica, however is there a better option? Besides having a $1200 paper weight? No warranty card or receipt. I have heard that for a small fee, Leica will replace the unit anyway??

Deal direct with Leica, H&F cant deal with their own customer service let alone any one elses. Leica also have a US branch and they refurbished my bino's for me, only charged freight. Sorry dont have address with me.

Try Lacklands I think they are the NZ Leica agent.

+ 1 for Lacklands support and backup, they replaced our sons 1600 with a 1600-B when the laser crapped out. About a 3 week turn time.

    +1 for Lacklands.

I sent my Leica 10 x 25 binos to them for servicing last year and received excellent service. Via their website I tracked the binos as they passed through their NZ facility, on to Portugal, through the repair shop and back. I had no receipt as the binos were several years old, so I had to pay some freight (which is only fair enough). The binos came back like new 5 or 6 weeks later - much faster than I expected.

You pay top dollar for these products so it's good the manufacturer provides top service in the event of problems.

Good to learn this; I bought a s/h Leica rangefinder off a member here a while ago, and very encouraging to know there is support IF they ever play up

Yup, awesome service so far. Their disclaimer is $150 service fee for Leica. But the guy I brought it off is covering it. Good sort.

Just sent them away today, so I will keep you posted on progress. From what I have heard, they don't repair rangefinder units, just replace them.

UPDATE: 47 day turn around from Lacklands. Not complaining though. $150 and a trip half way around the world and my Leica 1600-b is back and in full working order! Lacklands kept me in the loop the whole time and apologised about the time frame. Wasn't a big deal though, understandable when you have to send it back to Portugal.

Pretty good for a Leica without a warranty card.

Thanks heaps for the advice team.

    Cool.

So was it a repair, or replacement?

Unfortunately just a repair. Which is interesting considering some of the feedback I was reading.

I sent away an older 900 model. That stopped ranging as far as it should of. They sent me back a brand spanka 1200. Very good service with the Leicas!
