leica rangemaster
thinking about buying a second hand range finder. a leica 1200 only hunting north island :( be lucky to shoot out past 350-400 m but would like to take out the guess work.
They look like a good basic reliable unit. Had a cheap unit years ago and found it handy cutting shooting distance by working out if i get to that patch off bush and shoot from there etc.
Also the leica 1200 seems to be the most common unit coming up second hand or is there a better model? I was looking a meter model.

i've had one for a long time never had any trouble with it.
-
do they just tell you the distance or do they tell you the angle you are reading on?
-
No the 1200's just read distance, they are a great basic unit & that's one of the best things about em. They just do one thing & do it very well & have great glass.
Mist & light rain are the only thing that screws em up a bit.
You will need to go to a "b" unit if you want all the other cool bits like TBR etc, if you don't mind paying a little more the 1600b's are great units

very happy with my 1200 . . . optics are very good, ranges well . . $5-600 on TM, money well spent compared to cheaper units that don't perform
-
Just make sure you get the 1200 Scan if you are talking the older LRF series. Good reliable units.
-
what about the other rangemaster models like the 800,900 or 1000 just less distance? still the current compact model

Any one using a rangemaster crf 800?

You won't go wrong with a Leica I have the 1000 model and what I like is how fast the distances come back, almost instant. My old Leupold was slow and was short on ranges. The leica has ranged over a 1000 yards several times. Mine can be changed from Meters to yards whichever you choose. Great rangefinder would be lost without it now.
