Thread: Leupold VXIII 2.5-8 /1.5-6 Reticule

A while a go I purchased a VXIII 2.5-8 (duplex). A nice scope but I find the duplex reticule very narrow to look through (by this I mean the thin lines in the duplex appear much smaller/shorter than they do in say, a VXII 2-7x33).

Not being happy with the 2.5-8, following a recent gun purchase I ordered a 1.5-6 (hoping it would be better). It arrived today and it is far worse - it is just like looking through a key hole (between the thick bars) with a cross in the middle.

A bit disappointed.

Has anyone else experienced the same - or have a different reticule in theirs (if so what is it - I am thinking of getting mine changed)?

I have, in VXIII, a 1.5-5x, a 3.5-10x and two 4.5-14x's, along with a couple of VXI and VXII 2-7's (all with Duplex reticules) and they are all great.

My VX3 1.75-6 has a heavy reticle, takes a while to get use to it. Its perfectly fine, but certianly prefer a standard duplex.

I had my zeiss 4x changed to German 4# for the same reason.awesome in the bush for clo shots and still good out to a couple hundred easily,great in low light,also have a vx1 with wide duplex,way better than standard you should check the wide duplex out if you get a chance.

when light fades out, you are better wit a thick/ heavy reticle . And seeing the kind of magnifications you choose on those two scopes I do not think that you will be penalised.

The German 4 is not bad either.

My ideal reticle would be a German 4 upside down with a few dots below the cross on the thin portion for different distances to match the trajectory of my bullet.
That way, I could still see the reticle when light fade and for shooting under 100 m. And for longer shots during daylight I could use the dots to compensate for bullet trajectory . I asked leupold once about it but never got a reply :-(
