When a young man, I read somewhere the following: God the Almighty said, 'All that is too complex is unnecessary, and it is simple that is needed.' So this has been my lifetime motto – I have been creating weapons to defend the borders of my fatherland, to be simple and reliable.

I can't imagine MK as a Soviet quoting Christian verse & phrase, but I guess you never know. He did rob the garand trigger and FN1900 safety for his AK.

Yes, Mikhail Kalashnikov was a Christian, specifically a follower of the Russian Orthodox Church. He embraced the religion in his later years, after the age of 91. He expressed remorse in a letter to the Patriarch Kirill, expressing his "spiritual pain" over the deaths caused by the AK-47.
    Here's a more detailed look:
    Late Conversion:
Kalashnikov, like many in his generation in the Soviet Union, grew up without a formal religious background. He became a follower of the Russian Orthodox Church in his declining years.
    Expressing Remorse:
In a letter written to Patriarch Kirill, he expressed his deep regret and the burden of guilt he felt for the deaths caused by his AK-47 design.
    Authenticity of Letter:
While the Church confirmed receiving the letter, its authenticity could not be independently verified.
