Looking for a lightweight scope for my Sako Carbonlight in 7mm Rem Mag for shooting out to 1000yds. Still looks like either a March 2.5-25x40 / 50 or the Leupold Vx5/6 3-18x44 are really the only contenders that are light, reasonable glass with exposed turret adjustments. Anything else worse considering?
VX5/6 or Z5 be my choices, have all three and all capable and proven lightweight hunting scopes

I don't know the weight but I have a Zeiss HD5 5x25 for sale or swap. been out to 1000 with Remmag and 260 with it easy. Zero stop limits to about 800 also if you fit it.
Don’t get the 40mm obj March, it’s rubbish compared to the 52mm obj version.
Maybe the Tangent Theta 3-15x50 (TT315M) - not as light as the March or VX5/6. And expensive now. Still pissed off with myself for selling the one I had...

is your primary use hunting or gongs ?
If hunting, then I'd be considering the best glass possible for low light, even if its a wee bit heavier. Murphie's law says you'll bump into that ripper stag at <200yrds range right on dark !! For that reason a firedot reticle would be my pick in the VX6/5 range.
1000 yds is a very looooong way & how often are the conditions going to allow you to make that shot ?
Realistically 500 - 800 yards more likely, then a 12x mag is a good option - if you want min weight then the VX6 2-12x42 is one to look at. A bit heavier and hard to find the older Zeiss DL 3-12x50 with dial up turret (mils). A bit heavier at around 1.2 lbs but Euro quality glass. Or the Swaro Z3 4-12x50 BT if you want light weight and euro glass, downside is 4x which is a limiting in the bush.
Check out the v4 and v6 zeiss. Around 650 grams with plenty of elevation. Will be availabe here soon. The V6 in 3-18 has 103 moa elevation, fluoride glass and a few reticles it will be a little bit more than a vx6 $ wise but twice the scope. I have a contact through zeiss if you want some pricing and availability.

Value for money the VX5hd is hard to beat, but the Z5 beats it in weight at the expense of elevation adjustment and higher price tag.
The VX3i is very light, but doesn't have as good turrets for dialing and pretty rubbish FOV.

If you were just wanting to go flat out light as possible I wouldn't thumb my nose at the good old vx3 4.5-14 with cds turret, had a few of them before finally moving onto a vx6 and for the money they can't be beat, was easily ringing gongs at 800+, dial good, glass is decent, leupold warranty, price is good, the only downfall being no parallax adjustment but that didn't seem to be a big deal in real world hunting and shooting steel
I'm no stranger shooting out to 1000yds on game (shots are commonly is 500-800 yds where I hunt). Paralax adjustment, repeatable turrets, great glass are very important but I'm also trying not to overload the rifle with weight. Ive always traditionaly used something like a March - worked great but if I'm being honest the glass / brightness wasnt that great. Maybe their 50mm version might be improved. I havent looked through a VX6 yet but sounds like that might be the best bet.

I've got a VX6HD with the illuminated TMOA. I like the level indicator, the centre part of the reticle flashes when you are cantered. Glass is great, and the eye box is fairly good at x18. Also as mentioned are the Alumina caps which are better in the wet than I thought they would be. Big price difference to the VX5 with lower mag, but I've convinced myself the extras are worth the $$. I sold a Z5 to move to this and didn't notice the weight in real life carrying & hunting.
I have the 2.5-25x52 milrad March at the moment and it is a huge step up from the 42mm objective version and would probably be about perfect for your sako

Cricky a 4-24 probably wouldn't be the first one I think of as a compact lightweight scope but they are bloody nice, I run one on my Edge. Has mint glass, TMOA reticle is nice & dials ok, Not super light & biggest downside is size, especially having a 34mm tube pain in the arse finding the rings ya like ( probably not so much nowadays though )
